I would like to see Paris again, and would love to zip across and up to Switzerland, just for a few days. Is that easy to do? Can I just catch a train or bus? Or is a long complicated journey?

Take a train/plane to get there and then rent a car to sightsee.

I was just reading some others posts and see that the TGV goes there and take around 3 hours - perfect!

The TGV will take you direct to Geneva or Lausanne or Berne. Check voyages-sncf.com for timetables and fares. Advance booking can save you quite a bit of money. Check this page by MorganB for details on how to navigate the process: http://tinyurl.com/fq89s
Getting around Switzerland by public transport is REALLY easy, though not always cheap, if you do not want to rent a car. Otherwise you might as well drive from Paris and see some of the splendid country in between — Burgundy and/or the Jura for example.
BTW, I know everything is the other way up in Oz, but I think you go across and DOWN to Switzerland, not up...
:-)
