Hate to do this, but I need an air mattress in Paris

I know this was posted by Robin a week or so ago, but I never saw him get a definitive answer and unbelievably, the post became so contentious.

So, before I get jumped on for wanting an air mattress - let me qualify what it is I need to find:

A mattress that self inflates or by way of electric pump, that when inflated is approximately 12-14 inches deep, roughly queen sized and is used for overnight guests - not swimming and not camping.

And my reason for needing it. We are renting an apartment for 30 days - it has a bedroom, as well as a living room and a separate dining room. We will have guests (my parents) for 2-4 days over christmas and want to turn the dining room into a guest room for the duration.

We will have no problem with abandoning the mattress or handing it on to a fellow traveller. We will not lug it back to California.

We will be in the 4th/1st border and pretty near BHV. Is this what they sell? Do they come with their own pump? If not, where do Parisiens buy inflatable guest beds.

Jane- does the apartment owner/rental agent know you are planning to have extra people in the apartment? Sometimes they don%26#39;t like it if you don%26#39;t tell them you%26#39;ll have extra people there.

I would think it would be very possible that you might find a blow up mattress at BHV-maybe in the bed department. If I remember, I will try to swing by there one of these days and check it out.

Yes, they do, they have no problem with my parents coming from London to visit - as I live in San Francisco, I don%26#39;t get to see them too often.

The apartment sleeps 4 and has sheets/pillows and blankies to spare. However, the sleeping arrangements for the second couple is on the sleeper couch in the LR.

The LR is where the TV, DVD, Internet and Stereo are. Also, with mum and dad (both in their late 70%26#39;s) on the couch, we lose all comfy seating. The kitchen is open to the LR - so anyone in there wakes up those sleeping on the couch.

As we have no particular need for the large separate dining room, we thought we%26#39;d put the mattress in there and then we can all still gather in comfort in the eves. It%26#39;s only for a couple of days out of 30, and then all goes back where it came from.

So, yes the owners do know mum and dad are staying for a few days - however they don%26#39;t know about the mattress - I don%26#39;t see any reason to tell them.

And no, I%26#39;m not that wicked, we%26#39;ll take the mattress and mum %26amp; dad will get our bedroom.

Is there an REI in Paris? Would they sell a real air mattress rather than a Thermarest Pad (I have 2 of those). I also have a queen airbed which I bought from Overstock.com - it%26#39;s exactly what I want for Paris, but it weighs a ton - so it is staying home.

I really do want to buy it there, not lug it over. Also I%26#39;ll be sure the pump is compatible.

I think BHV or similar, is my best bet. I%26#39;ve been on their website but didn%26#39;t know what the french for %26#39;inflatable bed, airbed, air mattress%26#39; or whatever, is - so I couldn%26#39;t search.

Like I said in the last post in French it is called a ( lit gonflable )

And you can get one at any of the grand surfaces eg Carrefour - Cora Monoprix etc .

The price range is from €20- €200 .

Quality very good and most of all durable .

We used ours on vacation and had to leave it behind because it weighed down our luggage.

They sell electric pumps and manuel ones .ie.The kind that you pump with your feet .

We opted for the manual to give our guests something to do while we go find the sheets.

But like I said there are vaious prices with differebt options.

I wonder if someone would be kind enough to give an address for a carrefour or monoprix that does sell these matresses?

There%26#39;s many of these stores in Paris and knowing which one to go to would save lots of time, thanks

(yes, I would think that I%26#39;d like one too - cos sleeping with my

sister will loose it%26#39;s novelty after a couple of nights!! 18 sleeps to go!)
