Tuesday May 30,2006........
Awoke twice last night with really bad leg cramps! All this extensive walking is getting to my muscles! Today will be a nice sitting respite!
I slept in til 8:30 am. I walked across the street and over to the Marie on Place d%26#39; Italie. I walked into the place and looked around. There was a sign showing that a scheduled Italian Week Celebration would be in a few weeks. Must note that on my calender!
I crossed the Boulevard and went to the ATM PNB and withdrew Euros and took the receipt. There is still time before my movie Marie Antoinette starts.
I walk into Monprix and look at sun hats and then walked thru the whole store! The cosmetic part was blocked off --no entry.
Yves Rocher ( my favorite place!) is right across the road so I go there and look at all the specials! I asked for help and bought a bottle of hair conditioner( 5 E) and there was a special on shampoo %26quot;limited edition of Jardins des Iles Monoi de Tahiti%26quot; (1.5 E 150ml). I bought three bottles that should be enough for the next 80 days. The conditioner did not work but the shampoo was a beautiful fragrance and worked well. I bought a couple of perfume pots for my two daughters -- blackberry and kiwi.
The movie was to start at 11:00 am so I get there at 10:35 am. My ticket was 4.90 Euros. There was a lovely lady sitting about 5 seats behind me and to the left. We are the only ones in the theater. She spoke out to me in French asking a question I did not understand. I started to say in French I do not understand I speak mainly English, As soon as I said that she spoke to me in the most perfect English. We talked for about 40 minutes. I asked her why she would come to the movie in VO. She said it is her chance to polish up on her English! I told her I do the same back in the USA when I rent French movies with subtitles! She was very interesting woman. She told me the movie had been %26quot;booed%26quot; at the Film Festivial. She said the French did not like the way in which Marie A. was presented. It was not an historically correct account.
The movie did not start til 12:00 and the theater filled up with a total of 27 people! (Must be bored I actually counted!)
I really enjoyed the movie! At one point I thought saw Marie A. with Converse High Top Tennis shoes! I must have imagined it! I will go back to see it when it comes to my local area theater! I loved the costumes and the hairdos, the furnishings, the horses and carriages, the forest scenes and especially the views of Versailles! It made me want to plan it into my trip for another visit! Chateaux Chantilly was also one of the filming locations. I was so glad I had seen it on my last trip. I think this movie will win Coppla another award! The movie just was not long enough for me! It could have gone on all day with out a complaint from me!
When it was over I went out into the afternoon sunshine, walking to Saint Medard. I got some lovely pictures and toured the church. Then I walked rue Mufftard (one of my favorite places). I looked in stores for a sun hat but the 79 Euros was too dear for me! I went into Franprix and previously Monprix and could not find rice wine vinegar for salad dressing. I went to a little gift store and found two little colorful wooden toy bear and chickie (3 Euros each!) on little slinky springs so that they dance in the air -- for my daughters -- they looked like the would be great for concentrating during labor contractions! I think a good focal point ! OK ... I can hear you all chuckling at me! I just can%26#39;t wait until we have a grandchild!
I went into a hardware store and found a 2 meter extension cord for 2.29 Euros. This will be great for cutting hubby%26#39;s hair during the next 2 months. He said he would bring one of the old USA hair cutters and not to buy the one I saw for almost 20 Euros. ( I did cut his hair about 7 times over the next two months and we left the cutters in France.)
I bought an ice cold coke light for 1.15E at the grocery. I found my favorite window crepe maker and ordered a gruyer cheese and ham crepe for a late lunch. He makes the best he always smears it with a chunk of butter before he adds the cheese and ham. It is always the most wonderful crepe not dry or overcook at all!
I decided to walk to Saint Etienne du Mont. One of my favorite cathedrals. I must look at the screens again! They are so beautiful! I just marvel at the talented artists and craftsmen! I got some more great pictures of the interior and the exterior. I am afraid that one day the cathedrals will all have the rules %26quot; No Photos%26quot; just like Sacre Cour! Then I walked over to take exterior pictures of the Pantheon.
I came across the store called %26quot;Picard%26quot; which had frozen foods! I wish I had a kitchen! The sales and specials for May and June were fantastic and the foods looked so great! I wanted many to take home with me! Why do all the frozen foods in France look so wonderful on the pictures on the boxes! Are they as good as they look! I think so! Maybe just cause they are so different than what I am used to I am so attrated to them! Who knows!
I needed a restroom so I hopped into a %26quot;Quick%26quot; walking up to the second floor. But now the bathrooms have a code you have to punch in to use them! So one has to buy something! A very nice young girl saw me trying to open the door so she punched in her code off her receipt for me to use the restroom.
I walked over to Luxembourg Gardens and sat near the pond watching people and listening to an orchestra practicing. It started to get late so I walked all the way back to Place d%26#39; Italie which took me a long time ( especially with my handicap leg!) I was so proud that my leg was strong enough for that great distance! I was able to stop and look into store windows and read menus in the windows on the way. Taking note of those diners I would like to try.
I ate a peanut butter and fig jam sandwich on a honey milk roll with a nice cup of tea and fruit for desert back at my hotel. %26quot;Desperate Housewifes%26quot; was on TV again so I watched it! Fell asleep without changing and awoke about midnight with leg cramps again. Took hot shower and did a lot of leg stretching and changed into jamies. Then off to sleep!

I can%26#39;t wait to see the movie %26quot;Marie Antoinette%26quot;. I%26#39;m sure I%26#39;m going to love the scenery and costumes........and seeing her in those high-top tennis shoes. Speaking of movies, tonight I%26#39;m going to see %26quot;The Devil Wears Prada%26quot; for a second time. I saw it this summer in N.Y. (w/o hubby), but now it%26#39;s in Israel and all our friends are going, so I said I%26#39;d see it again. I just adored those Paris scenes.

Picard is indeed a great store for frozen food. For people who don%26#39;t like or don%26#39;t have time to cook, it is perfect and a good way to easily impress their guests. Even for me who love to cook, I use some of their frozen vegetables for my everyday meals. And their %26quot;pain rustique%26quot; , %26quot;mini-croissants%26quot; and %26quot;mini-pains au chocolat%26quot; are really good !
|||
Anne - It%26#39;s good to know that even great chefs aren%26#39;t against frozen foods.
|||
Discover - I hope you will be able to keep up this writing pace - I am now counting on my %26quot;Discover Trip Report a day%26quot;!
|||
Anne....I%26#39;m appalled! Picard....really! Actually, we buy stuff there, too ;)
|||
I s Picard the place that sells frozen entrees in actual baking dishes( not foil, but ovenware) ? A few years ago when my dad and I visited a family friend, he served us frozen entrees, and they were delicous, not at all similar to the quality one would get here, plus they came in reusable( I still have one dish) ovenware!

Disicover -
Try drinking more milk or taking some calcium pills - they may help with those cramps.

Oh I really enjoyed reading this. Thank you for sharing! I%26#39;ve been once and I%26#39;m trying to decide where to go on 2007. I%26#39;m thinking of going back to Paris for a second trip, just on my own. Were you on your own?
|||
Yes, for 5 weeks I was alone................ I had alot of time to take Cathedrals , museums, shopping, wanderings and day trips very slowly.
I always enjoy my time alone in Paris!
