I%26#39;m interested in taking a half day trip to Monaco. Can someone tell me what types of things there are to do in Monaco. I%26#39;d like to have some idea before i go there.

There%26#39;s the changing gof the guard at the Palace at 1pm every day, I%26#39;ve seen it and thoguht it a bit lame but seems to be the thing to do. If the weather is poor, then I do recommend the Oceanographic Museum, in fact if the weather is good, it%26#39;s still worth a look.
My best day in Monaco was lunch at the Cafe de Paris followed by a good shop in Hermes, the branch is big there and they have some unique things to the shop like Jean Cocteau design beach towels a couple of years ago. If you fancy the Casino, then dress up and take your passport and money. There is a tourist train like the one in NIce, not done the Monaco one but it%26#39;s a handy sort of thing if you just want a quick taster of eerything and although Monaco is small, there%26#39;s a fair bit of walking between the Palace and Monte Carlo.
The Monaco website is here:

for more ideas other than shopping and eating!

we walked through the gardens, visited the Cathedral where Princess Grace was married and buried, visited the castle (got the audio tour, very nice) and museum next door (again audio tour) and had a nice lunch at the restaurant next to the casino. I loved Monaco. I wished we had more than 1/2 day. I would have liked to have gone to the science (ocean) museum and walked around some more. It is extremely clean and well kept.

Hi Carla,
Just thought I%26#39;d add my own comments with regard to your trip to Monaco. If you plan on seeing the changing of the guard at the palace at 1PM, you%26#39;ll miss it by an hour and five minutes, since they change guards at 11:55 AM.
As to visiting the Musee Oceanographique only if it rains, I would definitely consider spending time in this world famous museum whatever the weather. We%26#39;re talking about a building, built into the side of a cliff that houses more than eighty enormous tanks of fish, from the most colorful salt water tropicals, to man eating sharks. Along with skeletons of gigantic whales, this will be a truly memorable experience. They also have a charming cafe that overlooks the Mediterranean, and although it%26#39;s not the Cafe de Paris, would not break the bank. Whatever, or wherever, enjoy.

I%26#39;m sorry I got the time wrong! I didn%26#39;t care much for it so maybe it was a self-defence unconcious thing kicking in (or too lazy to check more like!) Thanks Funkster, it would have been horrid for it to be left uncorrected, cheers, Lisa

Hi Andrew,
With all your terrific help to most everybody, you sure are entitled to one miss. Keep up the great stuff. Now I know why the US and GB have been such good friends. The only apology we have is George B, but let%26#39;s not get political. Have a good one!

Forgive me Andrew, my last post was to AllaboutNice, o wise one!
My apologies!

Don%26#39;t forget the municipal swimming pool in Monaco. Good on a hot day and in a splendid situation. Can be a nice break from tramping round the streets!
|||
The Jardins Exotiques (exotic gardens) and its hidden cave is quite nice also (visit of the cave is every hour and needs good shoes as stairs can be slippery).

Hello
There%26#39;s a handy little guide book called City Spots - Monte Carlo which might be of use. I have a copy of this and the one for Nice. It%26#39;s good because it is small enough to fit in a pocket yet plenty of good info. More details here:

It might be too late to order from Amazon but it is stocked in local bookshops too, worth getting a copy. If you have time in Monaco, you can also pick up free guides and maps from the tourist office.
best wishes
