Advice on Climate...and everything else!

Hi, we are planning to travel to France, with a view to a permanent move in the not too distant future. Because of the time it would take to visit every area that appeals to us, we are throwing ourselves on the mercy of you good people! We want to visit places that have a climate that is not TOO hot in height of summer, and although we can stand a cold winter, what we don%26#39;t want is loads of rain - at any time (had enough in UK!) We have visited the Cote d%26#39;Azur (too hot!) and Paris (just not our thing for permanent living). We want to live somewhere where it%26#39;s maybe a bit old fashioned, where people are nice and friendly, where it%26#39;s not hideously expensive...OK Utopia, I know! Seriously though folks we would be very grateful for any advice anyone can give. It%26#39;s hard enough buying a house in UK never mind a whole new country and we don%26#39;t want to waste time and money exploring areas that aren%26#39;t right for us. Please don%26#39;t think I am taking the easy way out as I have spent HOURS researching this and am getting more and more confused!
