Hotel D'Albe St Michel?

My husband and I are going to Paris for the first time Nov. 3-10. I am about to reserve the Hotel D%26#39;Albe because of the rave reviews on trip advisor and I just wanted to make sure I am making the right decision. I initially was looking for a hotel with more character but the location sold me on D%26#39;Albe. Are there any hotels in the same area that have a more romantic feel at around the same price or a little more? (we are paying approx. $200 per night with breakfast. )Thank you in advance for your expertise.

The location sold you ? You do know you are right in the middle of the very, very touristy pedestrian streets with restaurant after restaurant and nightclub after nightclub, right ? I would describe it as %26quot;fun and upbeat%26quot; but probably not %26quot;romantic%26quot;. I personally like this area, but many do not, so I just want to make sure you know exactly what you are getting.

I can recommend the Hotel St. Jacques for a wonderful small hotel only about two blocks south on Rue des Ecoles. It is newly remodeled and has very ornate, romantic rooms with molded ceilings and frescoes on the walls in many rooms. It does not have air conditioning and therefore only rates two stars, but take a look at the reviews and their website and you may be sold. I think the rates will convert to somewhere around $175 for their deluxe rooms.

You may also want to look into the Hotel Buci as it has romantic decor and in the middle of everything in the St. Germain des pres area and just a little over the $200 price range I think.

Good luck !

Again, I%26#39;ll say it - try for one of the hotels on Ile St. Louis - a short walk from Notre Dame, etc. and quiet at night and all the charm that one could imagine.

Bon voyage.

I%26#39;ve got to agree with 1BCtraveler. Staying on the Ile St. Louis is a much nicer, calmer area than the Hotel d%26#39; Albe%26#39;s location. I recommend the Hotel de Lutece. www.paris-hotel-lutece.com

The rate is somewhat more than your $200 budget, but it will be worth it.

Loveapug - Hi there!!! Ile St. Louis is indeed a very charming area. However, it isn%26#39;t convenient as far as the metro is concerned. As a first time visiter, I believe you should keep this fact in mind.

|||

Sorry for the typo - I meant %26quot;visitor%26quot;.

|||

That%26#39;s actually not correct about the Ile St. Louis and transporation. There are several metro stops. The closest one is Pont Marie. Walk a few minutes another stop is Hotel de Ville. It is a highly central district.

|||

Shoesy, tsk, tsk..... Gotten all lazybones lately, have we ? Been too much back in the US so we want the metro to go right on our doorstep, eh ?.....

:o)

Bus lignes that go cross Ile St. Louis are:

67 Place d%26#39;Italie - Rue Mouffetard - Rue Monge - Hotel de Ville - Louvre - Grands Boulevards - Place Pigalle - and through lovely Nouvelle Athènes on its way back

86 Bois des Vincennes - Bastille - Odéon - Saint Germain des Près

87 Gare de Lyon - Bastille - Odéon - Saint- Sulpice -Sevres Babylone - Invalides - Champs de Mars/Eiffel Tower

So just by hopping on one of these buslines you get to see the major part of the Big Must Sees !!

Gitte - I can%26#39;t help it. Staying at the Britannique Hotel, which is right across the street from the Chatelet metro station, apparently spoiled me. It was sooooooooo convenient to have means of transportaion that close to my hotel. But I wasn%26#39;t lazy because I walked for many kilometers every day.

You might look at Les Rives de Notre Dame. The rooms are decorated in a Provencal decor and some have a view of the cathedral.

The price is a little more than $200 but the location is ideal. Near the sights, the metro, Notre Dame, etc. And even thought it%26#39;s in a busy area, the windows are double glazed and keep out the noise.

It%26#39;s a charming little hote.
