Some dos and don'ts for your Paris trip

Just some stuff off the top of my head:

Museum Pass:

If you plan to see enough museums to make it worth it, do buy a museum pass. Just the line jumping feature is worth it. We bought ours at the Cluny Museum, no line at all, and we never waited in line for any museums. It was great.

Packing:

Do put any and all possible liquids in your checked bags. Don%26#39;t forget anything, or the wait will be incredibly long.

Airport:

Do give yourself at the very least 3 hours at CDG. If you are changing planes there, you need at least 2 hours. We saw countless people stranded, having missed their flights. They check and recheck and double/triple check you at the security points.

Charging metro passes:

The machines they have in the Paris metro (where you can get tickets or passes) don%26#39;t accept the typical American credit cards. If you are buying with credit card, you have to go to the window. My credit card worked absolutely everywhere but on those machines.

THat%26#39;s all I can recall for now. If I can think of something else I will post it.

Here%26#39;s one more: Take a taxi from CDG to Paris. We took the bus into Monteparnass station and then the Metro to our hotel in the heart of Paris. It took like 3 hours, midweek, mid afternoon. Next time, I will take a taxi for the sake of saving time and energy from lugging suitcase up and down the stairs.

Thanks for the list Les.

One small amplification is that US credit cards will not work in any self service credit card machine. Additional examples are gasoline pumps and toll booths.

ATMs cards work very well in cash distribution machines of course, perhaps too well.

I particulary like your adivce on arriving at the airport 3 hours in advance. We read here all too often that %26quot;I made it in only 1 hour%26quot; and indeed sometimes that is possible but I shouldn%26#39;t bet my return flight home on some else%26#39;s lucky experience.

Especially w/ this new liquids scare, the security lines are very long and tedious. And I flew on a Sunday morning. I saw at least 6 - 10 couples who had missed their flights, and tons of people running a la OJ Simpson in his Hertz days.

We left the first arr. at 8, got to the airport by 8:30, were checked in by 9:00, but then spent until 10:15 in security lines.

And boy, was I ever felt up. Eeeks.

%26lt;%26lt;And boy, was I ever felt up. Eeeks.%26gt;%26gt;

That%26#39;s absolutely the BEST Freudian slip I%26#39;ve seen on TA in ages, Thanks for the laugh, Les!!!!!

|||

was does felt up mean? id like to laugh too :)

|||

Ha! Les..I guess that%26#39;s one way to pass the time! ;^)

|||

Er...unless that wasn%26#39;t a Freudian slip! gulp! Hopefully you did mean %26quot;fed up%26quot; ! ha!

|||

Alex... %26quot;felt up%26quot; means to be touched in private areas. Another word for that is%26quot; groped%26quot;. I think that is how it is spelled.

What would the French word be for that?... if you allowed to print it.

No, I mean felt up. Thank goodness it was a female! She did her job well....I guess. And proved I was carrying nothing between my breasts. Yikes....
