Trans atlantic sailing

I am wondering if people still travel to europe from U.S. this way, if so how and is it better than flying in the summer ? is there anywhere i can price it?

We are offered %26quot;repositioning %26quot; cruises from time to time, which go transatlantic in the Spring or Fall and sometimes offer free airfare one way as a perk. Some stop at Le Havre . the closest port to Paris I think. We haven%26#39;t done it yet but are tempted- but are afraid we%26#39;ll get %26quot;cabin fever%26quot; Most are 12-14 days with many days %26quot;at sea %26quot; during the crossing.

Has anyone done it? There seem to be some amazing fares both from Ft. Lauderdale/Miami and from Galveston for November.

I have one comment - imagine the North Atlantic in November -

Yes, BRRRR!!! I%26#39;m sure! By the way- side comment- we spent an evening in Kamloops last summer on our way to Banff- what a great town- and full of friendly , helpful people!

The temp in November is another reason I fear the cabin fever- I%26#39;m sure you can%26#39;t enjoy the deck at all- sometimes there are 4 or 5 days straight %26quot;at sea%26quot;- I think I would go bananas!!!

Have done a couple repositioning cruises and love them. BUT you have to be very self-reliant and not easily bored! And you can%26#39;t get seasick or you%26#39;re in for a couple weeks of misery. Highly recommended but realize you may have to wait in Europe for six months before the ships return to North America!

You can also sail a cargo, but it%26#39;s expensive, and one has to get a certain mood to take advantage of such a way of travelling.

I just returned from a transatlantic cruise on Celebrity%26#39;s Constellation from 9/9/06 to 9/24/06. It was a cruise I will always remember. We flew into London, Celebrity%26#39;s transfer to Dover, England left Dover on 9/9, Holland on 9/10, Belgium on 9/11, France on 9/12, at sea on 9/13, Scotland on 9/14, Dublin on 9/15, Cork on 9/16, at sea 9/17-9/19, Newfoundland, CN on 9/20, at sea on 9/21, Nova Scotia, CN on 9/22, at sea on 9/23, arrived Bayonne, NJ 9/24. The only rough sea we had was the crossing - by the 3rd day I had to take medication for sea sickness - but was fine once the medication kicked in. There is more than enough to keep you busy on sea days - all 6 of them and resting from the excursions is definitely needed. I am home today before going back to work and I miss my daily sea day schedule on the Constellation :) aruond this time I was usually in the inside heated pool and sauna. We had beautiful weather all of the other days. I want to do it again, but next time book a cabin on deck 3 or lower in the middle with a window because there is less tossing around by the ocean on the lower decks. I can only say - what memories!!!!! From Scotland to Nova Scotia we were welcomed and sent off with bagpipes and at some ports Celtic dancers.

Sounds heavenly --

except the seasickness! I%26#39;d love to hear more about it.
