How difficult is it to change travellers cheques in Nice? I was going to bring some cash (euros) with me and some euro travellers cheques. I%26#39;m just wonderinf if it will be a hassle with the cheques in terms of cashing them. Has anyone had any experience with using travellers cheques in Nice?
thanks.

The easiest way to obtain cash in Euro in Nice is to use an ATM using your normal bank card. Just ensure that your bank card has the Cirrus, Maestro or Visa logo and that you have a 4 digit PIN.

my card doesn%26#39;t have any of those things on it. I guess I should inquire with my bank first to see if I can use it in France. Thanks for the advice.

Carla, I am Canadian also, and my ATm card has all of the above. Go to your bank and get a ATM card that does, I am surprised yours doesn%26#39;t, how do you use your ATM card at home.
Regadless, transfer your funds into a chequeing account with a bank that supplies all of the above, and use your ATM.
Travellers checks are difficult to use, very few places take them, no small businesses will, and banks there charge big fees to cash them.

no single Canadian bank supply both CIRRUS and PLUS on the card, it%26#39;s either or (just a technicality). carla%26#39;s card should have Interac, thus she has no problem using the card in Canada.

PLUS was not mentioned in the first response post for some reason. In all likelihood carla%26#39;s card has a %26quot;Plus%26quot; logo on the back.

Yes, my card says %26quot;Plus%26quot; and %26quot;Interac%26quot;, that%26#39;s all. I just called my bank and the lady told me that i could use the card in Europe but only at ATMs that display the Plus or Interac logos. So should I be alright with this debit card? I have both Royal bank and CIBC cards and they both only have these two logos.

If it%26#39;s any help, my local bank in Nice, %26#39;Societe Generale%26#39; (there%26#39;s plenty of branches dotted about Nice) accepts a 6-digit pin as well as the 4 digit pin.
I wouldn%26#39;t take Travellers cheques, ATM machines will be easier if you can check your card will work.
best wishes

The ATM machines at banks in Europe display the logos of cards that they accept - the main ones are certainly Maestro, Cirrus and Visa. Indeed, they may be others I do not recognise. Perhaps AllAboutNice could look at a few AIMs on his way about town and confirm whether your Canadian bank%26#39;s symbols are displayed.

On my bank%26#39;s webpage there was some information about using my card outside of Canada. There was also a link to a site where you can search for Visa/Plus ATMs all over the world. I searched for Nice and there are a bunch. I%26#39;m assuming that Plus must be associated with Visa or something. Anyway, here%26#39;s the link:

Plus is with Visa. Cirrus/Maestro is with Mastercard. It is not possible for a Canadian bank to issue both Visa AND mastercard products.
Both Visa and mastercard have online ATM locators on their websites.
