where to stay in paris for 4-day trip?

what area should me and my fiancee stay for a 4-day trip....on a BUDGET? we%26#39;d like to not be too far away from all the action, but we don%26#39;t need anything too fancy. around $100 - $120 (US) per night. please advise!

When are you going? And, do you care if you share a bath?

I would recommend the Hotel St. Jacques, which I know gets rave reviews on this site. I know they have rooms for around 100 Euros, including all taxes, so that should fall within your budget. It%26#39;s a great location--literally a 5 minute walk to Notre Dame, Luxembourg gardens are around the corner, and you can see the Pantheon outside some rooms%26#39; windows. Plus, the metro stop is one block away, and the RER B, which travels from CDG airport and from the Gare du Nord rail station, has a stop very close by. Very good location for getting around; the staff is very helpful, and there are lots of small grocers, bakeries, etc. in that immediate area, for cheap eats. Really a perfect locale. I have stayed there my last 2 visits to Paris and will stay there again.

maleeb, thanks for the suggestion.

we are going to be going there in a few weeks on a last minute vacation.

honestly, we%26#39;d rather have our own bathroom....any other suggestions?

Almost all of the rooms at HSJ have their own bath, PhillyD, sorry for the confusion. I am so with you on that, as American as that is. And, some of the bathrooms are bigger than the others, and the size is not necessary in relation to the room cost. Go figure. I just mentioned that b/c I think there might be some budget finds to be had, if you were okay with sharing a bath.

My husband and I are booked at the Chaplain Rive Gauche for one night in October. The rate was 88 euros, it%26#39;s a nice location (at least I like that area) and the hotel gets decent reviews. I can%26#39;t vouch for it yet, but read the reviews and see what you think. I%26#39;ll be sure to report back at the end of October, but that will be too late for you...

The Grand Hotel Jeanne d%26#39;Arc also gets good reviews for a budget hotel in the Marais area, as does Hotel des Mines in the 5th, the Welcome Hotel in the 6th and the Hotel du College de France in the 5th. All those would be good choices I think.

Good luck!

Check out Hotel Des Mines.

Good location, clean, nice staff, rooms small but nicely renovated, with sparkling private bathrooms.

|||

Joan:

After your glowing reviews (and others%26#39;) of Hotel des Mines, I tried to book for late Oct. but unfortunately, they were booked. Oh well, another time... :)

|||

I guess it is a hazard to report about nice rooms that are cheap, as then they do become hard to book!

Do hope you find another %26quot; hidden gem%26quot; !

I would recommend that you stay in the St. Germain area. It is near the Latin Quarter which it lively at night, and close to many things. It is very close to the Metro...and we felt very safe.

Try the Familia Hotel in the Latin Quarter. It fits your budget and always is among the best rated budget hotels. www.hotel-paris-familia.com.
