any budget vegetarian restaurants (and airport bus question)

Hi my wife and I are off to Nice this weekend and looking at doing it as cheap as possible

Rather than splash out for cab from airport we thought would get bus- we are staying at Hotel Garden Nice at 11 Rue du Congrès so any tips on what would be good for that would be appreciated

Also we are both vegetarian (including no fish) so any recommendations for where to eat would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Greetings Donald,

Just take the 98 Bus from the terminal, and ask the driver to drop you off at the Rue du Congres stop, which is right past the Negresco Hotel. Walk about 300 hundred feet, on the rue du Congres, and voila , your hotel. You are also a block away from the Rue Massena, which is one of Nice%26#39;s famed walking streets, known as the Pietonne.

As to the eating part of your weekend, there is a lovely vegetarian restaurant in the port, La Zucca Magica, at 4bis Quai Papacino. They have a fairly reasonable prix fixe menu, but bring Euros, as they do not accept credit cards. Enjoy!

Hello

There are plenty of cheap options for vegetarians in Nice, lots of pasta and pizza, restaurants and cafes all over the place. Some Nicoise specialities are vegetarian: Socca-a chickpea pancake, Farcis - stuffed vegetables, tourte Blettes - swiss chard pie savoury and sweet varietes. There%26#39;s soup au pistou - bean and vegetable soup with basil and garlic. Some cheap place to try this are Renee Socca, Lou Phila Leva and Sur la Pouce in the Old Town. In the Cours Saleya itself, the main market in Old Nice, you can buy vegetarian food from the stalls for a picnic. There%26#39;s a few ethnic restaurants in the Old Town too, Saf Saf which does good cous-cous. If you are on a strict budget and breakfast is not included in your room rate then it is usually much cheaper to go to a cafe or bar for your breakfast, or buy your own croissants etc from the local bakers. Beer is very dear in Nice, stick to the house wine and ask for the free carafes of water with your meal.

best wishes

Just come back from Nice as a veggie myself, and to be honest I did get a little bit frustrated with what was on offer. I didn%26#39;t go to the port (unfortunately) but ate out during most of my stay. My main recommendations would be René Socca (their socca is AMAZING), the café Les Ponchettes in Cours Saleya who do a really lovely vegetarian pizza and if all else fails, ice cream until you drop. I ended up eating nothing but ice cream and crepes during my last day, even though that might have been due to the fact that it rained and the weather was absolutely horrid and I got appropriately grumpy. Good luck, and DO check out the market if you%26#39;re after some quick lunch. Their fruit and vegetables are absolutely beautiful.
