Went through 4 check points, carryon was hand searched and found a half bottle of water in my wife%26#39;s carryon next morning. Some kinda security at CDG,it%26#39;s a joke!

I noticed an article in the Sunday Travel section stating that the UK is going to lighten the restrictions on what can be carried on the UK planes. They intend to this week to publish the new restrictions.
Maybe Paris CDG has already lighten the restrictions.

I don%26#39;t think so,there was a big sign saying no liquid and i heard the security at CDG is stricker than LHR.Also had a very predudice female security, she wanted to know where in London we stayed and asked for my iteniery which was in my suitcase.Somtimes these people try to outsmart themselves and end up being fools, told me my small carryon had to be checked but she let other people with larger ones take it on board.I could smell racist and she looked it also.

The reason you got through so easily was because the restrictions only apply in and out of the UK, these were a knee-jerk reaction to the recent arrests (supported by the US) and nothing to do with the rest of Europe.
|||
They also apply in Ireland and the USA though. The detectors in SFO are able to tell if you have water or not in your bag.

I flew out of Boston yesterday and they checked the water, gels, etc.
They spend a good amount of time on each passenger, who again show up with the big carry on luggage that take forever to seach and handle.I guess it is hard to change their ways. One bag is the rule however. You have to take your shoes off, belt, coat... and that takes time also. There is no place to sit for older people to put their shoes back on. Not always easy for them.
There was plenty of water on board and people were finishing their bottle of water just before boarding the plane.
Duty free is fully operational and your perfume/liquor is waiting for you as you board the flight. It took about 45 minutes to go through security as a lot of flights to Europe leave in the early everning.
There are special lines for business and 1st class.

I%26#39;d like to share an incident involving extreme carelessness by the TSA, as well as blatant theft, at Miami International ~ very soon after 9/11.
On an international flight out US, in addition to handluggage and shoes, I was %26quot;ordered%26quot;! to remove my jewelry, four bracelets, 18 CT gold bangles, of which one was studded with eight 20 Pts diamonds. Did you guess? ~ when the bin came of of x-ray, missing was the bangle with diamonds. In spite of my immediate reaction and questioning of the missing bracelet, this TSA crew, working %26quot;as a group%26quot;, totally ignored that, barking at me to open and empty my bag ~ then they insisted on checking out %26quot;every%26quot; title of CDs, DVDs and books; reading them all intently. They didn%26#39;t even glance at a box (the original) containing a new mini Cuisinart, which came with a razor sharp 4 inch cutting blade! (I had meant to transfer this into the checked luggage and was flabbergasted! when I discovered that I had forgotten to do so). This lethal weapon, right under their nose, was of no importance to them. Their priorities lie elsewhere.
I had to catch my flight so there was no time to involve the airport police, which of course is what TSA counted on. You speak of security being a joke at CDG because of a bottle of water ~ well, at some US airports, in the first year after 9/11, in lieu of public safety, there was theft galore (jewelry and watches in particular) by the TSA. These people, (obviously not all!), hired by Homeland Security, driven by greed, didn%26#39;t give a flying fig about what got on the planes; they were much too busy with their business.

That%26#39;s not really unusual--back when manicure scissors were forbidden I went through 3 security checks before my scissors (which I%26#39;d forgotten I had) were discovered at Dallas.

when i left for ny, my best friend had her lighter taken off her bag after passing the x rays while my 2 lighters stayed in my bag, even when we flew from ny to miami where they were checking everything (like my camera films with some kind of tissue they put in a machine, in france they didnt do that). and last time in july i flew from paris to milano and then sicily with a canceled passport...it was cut, in big and black bold CANCEL was written of the first 5 pages, but well i passed everything with success!! but next time ill check out if my passport is the good one, i woke up at 4 in the nmorning and thought i would never go in the plane, but no one seemed even surprised of that.

I wonder if anyone here has any recent experience on flying with an instrument... I go over to Paree every year carrying ON my mandolin in a small case (NOT a flight case!). I%26#39;m a musician and I jam with my manouche friends at the Marche aux puces. We%26#39;re flying from Montreal to CDG next month on Air France. My 1920 Gibson would not survive the cargo hold.... any thoughts, suggestions?
merci bien, Will P.

Did you see reports of criticism by the conductor at the Last Night of the Proms in London http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/5331694.stm ? It%26#39;s a very high profile event and the govt response was to suggest they are considering some easing of restrictions on musical instruments.
