does anyone know what the nuit blanche event is like? I think it has taken place the past few years, where some exhibitions etc are open all night. Just wondered if anyone had been to any of the events before to know what the atmosphere etc is like! ta.

I have been to the last two Nuit Blanche celebrations. It is an all-night performance arts festival sponsored by the City of Paris.
There are hundreds of exhibits that take place all over Paris with free public transportation all night. Its hard to describe - basically a little bit of everything. Here%26#39;s some events I%26#39;ve noticed from the past:
- Museums, like the Pompido staying open all-night,
- Charlie Chaplin movies being displayed on the sides of old buildings
- Live rock bands and dancing outside of Les Halles
- Laser shows at Versailles
- Chamber music in churches
- Hotel de Ville being open for tours and filled with a %26quot;cotton candy like substance%26quot; (I didn%26#39;t get to go in - at 10:00pm the line was 1 hour long, decided to check back at 3:00am, then the line was 3 hours long)
- Multimedia presentation on the history of the Notre Dame in the Notre Dame
- Flash mob demonstrations
Definitely worth seeing if you%26#39;re in Paris. It can be a mob scene in places, so if you don%26#39;t like crowds the more popular exhibits might not be for you. Some tips if you%26#39;re going:
1. Programs and maps of events can be picked up in front of the Hotel de Ville - all descriptions in French.
2. Look at the map in the program and wander around. The exhibitions are well marked.
3. End the night near your hotel. The one metro open is a total mob scene, and the lines for buses are insanely long.
