Paris advice please

planning our first trip to Paris, have some questions please;

I dont know and am not familiar with the areas, so can you please tell me what areas can be compared with the West End of London (ie Soho/Piccadilly); we%26#39;re looking for a boutique/hip hotel venue, and an area with modern wine/cocktail bars etc modern brasserie type places to eat.

we%26#39;ll be arriving via eurostar, so need to know how to reach to/from gar du nord (?).

thanks

I don%26#39;t know the West End, but it sounds like the St. Germain area that you%26#39;re describing (6th Arr.).

That would be the 6th arrondissement, St.Germain des Près (as far as I remember London - it has been some years since I was there, so locals: correct me if I am wrong)

I always recommend the very illustrative guidebook DK Eyewitness Travel Guide Paris, as it has many colour photos from the different areas and it gives a really good and useful overview of what are the characteristics of the different areas. Also it gives you the sights and museums etc of each area.

it is a little too heavy to carry around once you are in Paris, but for a firsttimer it is invaluable as a tool for planning.

You can buy it at www.amazon.com:
