jessibell: If you haven%26#39;t discovered it already, visit mappy.com and type in your start and end points. It will give you all the information you need. From the center of Paris to central Strasbourg, mappy.com says it%26#39;s 488km, about 4 1/2 hours drive time, will cost you approx. 43€ in petrol, and 31.90€ in tolls. It tells you where the speed cameras are, every turn you need to make, etc.
Other sites you can visit that will give you similar results are viamichelin.com and autoroutes.fr

Are you asking about the train also?
There is no fast train to Strasbourg as yet It should be complete in 2007.
I took the budget slow train from Paris to Strasbourg which stopped at every stop but was much cheaper for me to go visit my relatives. I think I boarded at 11:30 am on a Sunday and arrived at 4:00 pm.
There is a faster train but it cost alot more.
If you are driving we always make it a two day trip. We spent one night in a town and tour it. Then the next day we drive on to Strasbourg.
Disney is only about an hour out of Paris. We went there for a day one time. It is not as good or as big as the California or Florida Disney.

The standard train (opposite to the slow coach) is 4h02
By car, normally it%26#39;s between 4h30 and 5h (without traffic jam) but there are roadworks just now (for the future TGV train), count between 5h30 and 6 hours drive

thankyou everyone for your help!

I believe there is a train that takes 4 hours!Would this be a better and more relaxed way to travel towards Germany? Will do it in first and cost is not a problem.

Certainly. I have both driven and taken a train from Paris to Strasbourg (and beyond to Germany), and while the motorway through the French countryside is a relatively relaxed driving I would always chose the train. It is faster and you don%26#39;t have to concentrate all the time. If you book on advance it will also be much cheaper than the car - even if you buy the tickets in the last minute it won%26#39;t be more expensive.

All together it depends on what your final destination is in Germany and apparently you want to make a couple of stops (disney/lego...) and then the car for sure is the better option (flexibility?).
Then indeed the highway going east is nice to drive, no traffic and nice scenery, if you%26#39;re interested in WW1 you can always make a stopover in Verdun.
And as I said, it depends on your final destination in Germany. Also for a new driving experience, German highways without speedlimit are quite nice!

thankyou all after a week in Paris the decision will now be to pick up the car in Paris airport and drive or pick up in Strasbourg. As it will be my husband driving maybe i will see what he would prefer.Putting an itinery together is quite time consuming. Also any ideas of a great central spot to stay in Germany would be good to know .From there we will head to italian riviera maybe a week and provence entrevoux 1 week.Have 1 month to fill

Considering you are going to Provence after Germany, I%26#39;d stay south and do for example, Heidelberg, Munich (not on the way but still...), Freiburg and from there through switzerland down to southern France.

The mappy info, distance and tolls is accurate but you%26#39;ll pay more for gas. No construction end of July when I drove to Paris from the Strasbourg area. My half way stop in Germany is always Garmisch which is close to Neuschwanstein (the disney castle) and Linderhof. Fussen is probably where you%26#39;ll want to stay which is closest to the Castles. The bike paths are wonderful for the children in that area. Sneek over the border to Austria if you have a few extra hours. Driving to Italy via Switzerland is absolutely beautiful. I like both the drive through Italy via the Brenners Pass on the way down and via Switzerland on the return trip. Both are beautifully different. Oh, my daughters at age 7 %26amp; 9 enjoyed Legoland more than Disney Paris.
