Restaurants in Paris- mid price

Hi everyone,

My husband and I are off to Paris next month, and would love some suggestions for where to eat. I know Paris is FULL of good places to eat, but do you have any particular favourites, perhaps near tourist attractions that serve reasonably priced good food?

which restautants are your top choices?

would appreciate your suggestions!

Your best chance when you are near the tourist areas is to turn the corner off the big street and walk for a block or two, and then turn the corner again. You%26#39;ll find yourself among the neighbourhood places and you can tell the price range because they must post their carte and menu outside for all to see.

I don%26#39;t know if you%26#39;re an old Paris hand - but in case you aren%26#39;t, what we call the menu, the French call %26quot;la carte%26quot; (hence the phrase, %26quot;a la carte%26quot;), what they call %26quot;le menu%26quot; is a fixed price meal, generally with 2 or 3 choices of 2 or 3 courses, which is usually the best value for that meal that day.

I always step inside a restaurant or brasserie to listen for French. If that%26#39;s the predominant language, I stay, if I hear German and/or English (easy to pick out in a crowd), I move along and look some more. To me, one of the best things about Paris is the search for food.

BTW - drink the house wine - no place in France could survive with a bad house wine. There is no reason except flavour to drink bottled water, the tap water is fine. And, finally, avoid drinkng anything imported, whether spirits or Coca Cola. You%26#39;ll destroy your budget.

Bon voyage.

I strongly recommend Au Petit Marguery, a charming old bistro in the 13th. A menu of 3 courses (with quite few options for each course) costs about 40€ per person, with a few dishes%26#39; carrying supplements. October will bring game at the restaurant, along with our favorite dish of sautéed wood mushrooms--divine!

Okay I just got back and here are my favorite restaurants. Not budget, mind you. But they were fabulous and, what I consider, mid-price. Au Petite Marguery. Hands down fave. I had Breton lobster and it was fabulous. My partner had rabbit. Do not miss the Grand Marnier souffles. They are a house specialty and are fabulous. And the wait staff was just really professional and genuinely nice. We had oysters (in season in Sept) and a wild mushroom fricassee on puff pastry at Le Petit Zinc that were incredible. We had chicken and mashed potato at Lutetia that were to die for. You%26#39;d think chicken and mashed potatoes...ya so? But they were really special. I think those three were my favorites. Reservations at all three are recommended. By the way, don%26#39;t be put off making reservations. Most people answering the phones switched to english easily when you politely attempt your French.

I%26#39;m happy to see your report on our favorite Paris restaurant, although my stomach is rumbling at the thought. Sigh.
