Where to buy beer & wine in Calais?

Hi all,

Just wondered what is currently considered the best place for shopping bargains for day-tripping to Calais.

I last went over a couple of years ago and at that time %26quot;Eastenders%26quot; or %26quot;Auchan%26quot; seemed to offer the best price/ranges for wine %26amp; beer.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

There are dozens and the places you mention are both well known, it depends on what you want, just beer? if so go to Eastenders or one of the warehouses, if its decent wines try Franglais or Perardel. If you want food too go to the Cité d%26#39;Europe and try Carrefour then Tescos downstairs. It just depends on how far you want to push you trolley to the car, if you want anuthing specific let me know

I like to combine the Auchan / Sainsburys complex with Cite Europe with Carrefour and Tesco - all very close together. You can do some preliminary shopping and compare prices on line.

We like Franglais, mainly because you can taste many of the wines before you buy. It is also easy parking right outside the door. However, you could probably get cheaper wine at the large supermarkets.

A good web site is http://www.day-tripper.net and will you plan your trip.

There are lots of places, as listed above. Which you visit depends on how long have in Calais and what you%26#39;re looking for.

Tesco%26#39;s is good if want to bulk buy beer (Carling, Boddies, Guinness, 1664, etc) and generic vino (Claret, Chianti, Aussie brands, etc) in bottles and wine boxes. They take cash £s as well as €s and credit cards and your club card. Fill your boot!

For the more discerning wine drinker, Tescos range is not good, and Carrefour at the other end of Cité Europe offers more choice, particularly the French wine that is generally not exported, e.g. Vin de Savoie, Crémant de Bourgogne.
