We are going to be flying to CDG from June 5, 2007-June 12, 2007 out of Kansas City (MCI). Right now, the flights are about $1200. I have never really booked a big flight like this before, and I was wondering if anybody expected the price to go down. I know I looked last year for summer flights, and they were around $800. I sure hope they go down. I can%26#39;t imagine spending that much on plane tickets.

YES, they will. You have tons of time.
I leave in one week for a trip. I bought my tickets in June, thinking it was getting too close. I paid $1050. Since then there have been two sales. One where I would have paid $850, and another (very recent) where I would have paid $799.
It%26#39;s a gamble, but at this point you are so early that you should wait.

June is an expensive time to fly but I would wait till January and check prices on line once a week in the meantime.
1200 is too high.

I%26#39;m going to give contrary advice. In July 2004, the fare from DC was $900; in 2005 $1200; and in 2006 $1500. I don%26#39;t think that ultimately you%26#39;ll do much better than $1200. Travel in June is hardly ever discounted with a sale. Regardless, there%26#39;s no reason to get the tickets now. I agree with waiting until around the first of the year to get tickets just in case there%26#39;s some sort of bizarre alignment of the planets (all 8 of them).

You can make this trip for no less than half that amount if you are willing to travel during the month of February. The prices you quote do not seem unreasonable for the month of June and are bargains for travel in the July-August period. I know you have seen the price of oil this year and fuel is the single highest expense an airline has (out side of the fees of bankruptcy lawyers).
Not many Paris round trip tickets were sold this summer at $800.

If you fly US Airways and purchase the ticket now and the prices go down they will give you a voucher for the difference as long as it is the same exact itinerary. It says so right on their web site under Guaranteed Fare Refunds. I%26#39;m not familiar with policies of other airlines.

I wasn%26#39;t planning on buying the tickets now. I was just budgeting. I%26#39;m a little worried about the price now. Unfortunately, I cannot change the dates because it is our honeymoon. I would love it to be in the off-season, but with my graduating from college, a wedding at that time was the best. I emailed Delta and am waiting for a reply. Thank you all!

This site is showing fares as low as $1080 for your dates.
If you can possibly change your dates to May (I realize that is perhaps impossible in the circumstances) you can find fares as low as $830 RT.
I also found a fare of $840 RT for your dates from MCI to London (LHR) with American which is an EXCELLENT fare. You could certainly get from London to Paris and back for less than the difference, but you only have a short visit planned as it is so perhaps not a really good option...
I doubt fares will go down any, but there is no need to rush to book your flights. I%26#39;d be inclined to wait at least until early December, and keep checking in the meantime. Unfortuntely June is peak travel season and sales are highly unlikely.
You can sign up for fare alerts for your trip from many of the online booking sites and regular email updates from the major airlines in the meantime.

Don%26#39;t get too excited about what I am going to tell you. There is a significant downside to my suggestion...
I can get you from MCI to CDG and back on your dates for about $880 each.
The downside is that you would be flying multiple airlines and would not be ticketed straight through. Also you would have to spend a night not in Paris on your way home.
Here%26#39;s what I found — $750 RT from MCI to Dublin (DUB) with US Airways (mobissimo.com). 102€ (about $130) RT from DUB to CDG with Aer Lingus (www.aerlingus.com).
If you could possibly add a couple of days to your trip and spend a night in Dublin in both directions this might be a really worthwhile option. Even just adding one day so you could spend a night in Dublin on the way home without giving up a day in Paris would not be bad...

Irish,
What you won%26#39;t resort to to get people to the land of leprauchans, Guinness and shamrocks!
