We are in Port for one day Sunday Oct 22 1300 to 2200.
Can someone please tell us where to get the open top bus tour ?
Is it possible to get it neat the cruise ship port?
Also..after tour...where can we eat good, moderate price seafood in a sidewalk cafe setting for people watching?
One last ( off-beat request),,,before we head back to the ship,,,,we want to sample some gay night life in Nice...
any suggestions??? dave %26amp; jimmy Hawaiian islands

Hi Dave
You%26#39;re in luck, the open top tour bus is hop-on hop-off at several points in Nice and one of the stops is at the Port, at a stop called %26#39;Port quai lunel%26#39; This is on the west side of the port opposite the confectionery factoury, %26#39;Confisorie Florian%26#39;
The only part of Nice that the bus can%26#39;t reach is Castle Hill and the Old Town. This area is best explored on foot anyway. If you end the tour where you started, you are right at the foot of Castle Hill. You can walk around the sea to the other side of the hill for the steps or lift or just wend your way up the roads from quai lunel to the top. There you will have good views and will see the layout for the Old Town. This is where I suggest you stop for lunch. You might as well take the tourist route and settle down in the Cours Saleya for max people watching. At least make sure you vist the Cour Saleya for the market and then try and find a restaurant a couple of blocks in. La Tapenade on rue de la prefecture is great for people watching and has a good generous menu with nicoise specialities, the set menu is best value.
Or as you are already by the Port, there are mnay restaurants to choose from, the quieter part of the port is on the other side from quai lunel unless you coincide with cars queuing for a ferry! I quite like La Barque Bleue for a mid-priced decent lunch but there are plenty to choose from, take your time and read all the menus and see where french people are choosing.
Can%26#39;t give first hand advice for the gayvscene but I reckon the Port is the right area. there%26#39;s a very good website here which might give you a few ideas:

You won%26#39;t sample much %26quot;gay nightlife%26quot; in Nice if you are leaving at 10pm,(2200). This is the time most people are still dining.......
