Campsites in the vendee region

We are planning a family holiday to France in August and were thinking of staying in either the Sol-a-Gogo or Le Chapponet campsite, which I understand are both close to St Jean-de-Monts.

Has anyone stayed in either of these campsites, and would you recommend them? We have a young family, ranging from 4 years old to a baby.

Thanks in advance.

Hi.

we%26#39;ve stayed on many sites here in France before moving here permanently. We%26#39;ve not stayed on either of the two that you mention though. (It%26#39;s a BIG place!). St. Jean de Monts appears to be very popular among both the British and the Dutch. It%26#39;s a gorgeous area of France and you won%26#39;t be disappointed! If you look on this website, you%26#39;ll get lots of info from fellow campers about sites all over Europe: www.ukcampsites.co.uk.

Kind Regards,

I have not stayed at the sites you mention, neither of which are actually in St Jean de Monts. I have stayed at La Yole, which is an excellent camp site for families, the only possible drawback is that it is about 15 mins walk to the beach so is Le Chapponet by the way).

The whole area around St Jean is ideal for families as the beaches are great and it never gets quite as hot as the South coast, although it does come close on occasions. St Jean itself is a very friendly pleasant town set back about a mile from the sea. Particular attractions - the Passage du Gois, a tidal causeway to the Isle of Nourmoutier, drive over the sea, but check tide times first! - Les Sables d%26#39;Olonne, popular seaside resort with lots of restaurants - and the quayside eating places at St Gilles Croix de Vie.

The only real drawback for a young family is the relatively long drive from the channel ports.

We haven%26#39;t stayed at either of the sites you mention, but we have stayed at Les Genets several times and loved it there. We started going to the St Jean DE Monts area when our daughters were still at primary school, and my eldest daughter is going back this year(to Les Genets)with her partner, they are both 28 now,but they love that area of France. There are lots of places around that you can drive to,and there is a beach just along the road from Les Genets. There is a lovely beach in StJean du Monts itself, and there are others around.I hope you enjoy your holiday as much as we always enjoyed ours.

Hi,

we are also thinking of going to either the sol-a-gogo or les ganets in june /july.

As it is slightly before high season, does anyone know what the evening entertainment is like on both sites. We have a 2 year old and an 8 year old and are looking for some evening entertainment on or near the site.

thanks

I have just booked the Sol a Go Go for August after much deliberation and analysis of all the sites of that kind in the area. What looks good on one website / guide can look less attractive on another. It appears there are a range of old and brand new accomodations on the site, the facilities seem to be as good as any other and it is close to the beach. Having not stayed in the Vendee before, we%26#39;ve done Brittany, Royan and also the Savoie, you do have to take a bit of a leap of faith.

If you google La ningle you can%26#39;t go wrong. I%26#39;ve been going there four the last eight years, going on sunday for two weeks. The owner Gee is one hell of a top bloke.

Stayed at Sol a Gogo with keycamp and would not go back (with them). Accommodation old, shabby, dreary and dirty (had to have it cleaned twice) 10:30 quiet time? No way - we were located by the pool at the junction of two walls - pool on one side; basketball court on the other. Like being on holiday by the Berlin Wall! They would not / could not move us....

Bar open until wee small hours with pounding music. Pitch size was TINY - patio table with 4 chairs provided - there were 5 of us; sewage pipes surround the seating area; Not helped by both reps being on leave when we arrived - took hours to find anyone.....

No food in the bar - takeaway pizza; chicken or chips outside - small stock of VERY expensive necessities 8.5 € for a bottle of %26#39;cheap%26#39; wine; Drinks and coffee in the bar expensive too.

Beach great; pools reasonably good,

If you want a disturbed, uncomfortable holiday in shabby accommodation go to Sol A Gogo with Keycamp (and suspend your belief that the brochure bears any resemblance to reality)

Very interested in your comments. We stayed at Sol A GoGo for two weeks in August. In summary we thought it was great, but can understand your post. We had a plot away from the pool area, would not liked to have been where you were. We also felt that some operators had shabby homes and scruffy plots. Our plot was clean, plenty big enough for us - and we had a deck, a real bonus. Our accomodation was spotless and new this season. Reps were helpful. Yes the bar was pricey but so was everywhere else. Pool was OK, spoiled only by those selfish enough to spread towels and belongings over more chairs and loungers than were likely to use. The beach was excellent, you could not ask for more convenient access. However the three restaurants close to the site were a disgrace and one is run by the sol owner - raw chicken served here!

Overall we were very happy and considering going back.
