fondue is primarily a dish of the Alps, and will not be found at just any restaurant, brasserie, and/or bistro -- and must be kept over a flame to remain liquid. Keep the bread and cheese for picnics in your apartment, but eat the fondue at the restaurant.

The local grocery stores ( Champion etc. ) sell a most wonderful Fondu in the dairy/cheese section! I think we paid 3-4 Euros for it ! Look for it in a cardboard box with a picture on the front showing it in a fondu pan.
Just heat it up on the stove in a pan stirring it so it doesn%26#39;t burn and make sure you heat it enough for the brandy to disperse into the cheese. We had it for lunch several times and dinner also! It is soooo wonderful.
There are some great restuarants in the 5 th that serve it. I told Mascasra the name of my favorite place and she went for dinner. She loved itShe will probably remember the name as I forgotten!

Hiya Discover!
I can%26#39;t remember the name of the restaurant offhand- but it was on r. de la Hutchette. They had fondue- and the restaurant was sorta touristy trappy in a fun way, with all this bare wood and exposed beams with deer heads on the wall. I wandered in there late in the afternoon and the staff could not have been nicer. I sat near the bar and talked to the bartender and waiter quite a bit. The cheese fondue tasted a bit strong to me but it was decent and the prix fixe menu of french onion soup, fondue and tart tatin was frankly enough to feed two people. I think it was about 8E.

Thanks Mascara! I knew you would remember the location! I had the same meal also! Sometimes the brandy and alcohol has not been stirred into the cheese enough and you get a weird taste --- just keep stiring over the medium heat and it should get better tasting!
%26quot;Trader Joes%26quot; in the USA imports a wonderful fondu same box different name during the holiday months ( Thanksgiving til right after Christmas! I think it is about $5.00 !! Love to serve it!

These fondue kits are neither here nor there, keep away from them. Doing fondue at home is quite straightforward, but you%26#39;ll need:
1) A proper fondue set
2) 200 to 300 g of cheese per person, 1/3 beaufort, 1/3 comté, 1/3 emmental

We had a great fondue at Pain, Vin et Fromage, a tiny little place near the Centre Pompidou. Look it up - well worth the trip if you like cheese!
