marseille to aix

we are planning on taking the train from marseille to aix in october.

our innkeeper told us to take the regular train as opposed to the tgv as this train station is closer to our accomodation. can anyone shed some light on this trip? distance? typical fare? which train station would we need to leave from in marseille?

thanks, jenny dee

They gave you a good advice, the TGV station is in the middle of nowhere, and there%26#39;s a shuttle bus from it to Aix and Marseille.

You can take the regular train to Aix-en-Provence, or simply take a bus from Marseille. The bus goes from the top of Rue d%26#39;Aix. There%26#39;s a big arch and busses are just to the right of it.

We were going in the opposite direction, Aix to Marseille, and the train station was mobbed with students, the queue going out the door down the street, must have been hundreds of people queueing. We took the bus instead, the two stations are about 5 minute walk from each other, or even less.

I don%26#39;t remember the exact fare but it was somewhere around 7-8 euro each way.. It won%26#39;t break the bank. The trip takes less than an hour. And there%26#39;s a bus every 5 minutes.
