Can someone please advise me on what I should bring for a week in Paris during mid-October. Will it be raining? Does it get very cool in the evenings?
I am a notorious over-packer, but this time I really do have to limit my luggage. What are the essentials if you are planning on going out to some nice places for dinner as well as doing a lot of walking and museum visiting.
Thanks for your advice.

Anyone?

It might rain and it might be cool in the evenings, but October weather can vary quite a bit. Basics you should bring: At least 2 pairs of comfortable walking shoes and possibly some nice looking shoes for going out it you don%26#39;t feel the walking shoes cut it. A light coat or raincoat and a small folding umbrella. A couple pairs of dark slacks and possibly a skirt. Layers for on top: t-shirts and maybe a light sweater and a dressy top or 2 for dinners. A couple of scarves for variety (or get them there, it might be more fun!) Make sure all the colors coordinate so you can mix and match if necessary.
Hope this helps!

Hi bloomsday ! I have to be honest, I did not respond to this post at first because I answer the same question over and over. Here is a great website for you:
wunderground.com/global/stations/07157.html
It will give you not only current weather, but history of any specific date and you can look back year after year to see trends.
Also, I see you are new to this board ! Welcome ! I know you plan to be at my get-together and I look forward to meeting you !
A helpful tip: YOu can use the search engine above to find out answers to many questions. For example, for the weather question you can put in %26quot;weather in october%26quot; or %26quot;what to wear in october%26quot;and you will get a ton of old threads !!
See you soon !

Thanks, I am still figuring out how to use TA so I am definitely not a seasoned pro at this... I did do a search, but I used %26quot;what to pack,%26quot; so I see I should have tried a few other terms and that might have given me the hits I was looking for.
Thanks for all the tips. This board has been extremely helpful to me. (I am kind of a nervous traveler and haven%26#39;t been to Europe by myself in almost 20 years, so this is all new to me.)

You can experience a range of weather. So be prepared. It can be rainy, windy, and cold and then you can have an Indian type summer which would be a little warmer than normal for fall.
Be sure to pack a raincoat,a waterproof scarf, a small folding umbrella, gloves and layer clothing type clothing.
I wear mostly dark slacks for the dirty metro rides and lighter tops but not white ( only because I do not want to be washing clothes all the time).
For nice dinners I bring one nice black dress and some colorful scarfs.

Hi bloom -
This is the time of year that my silk ski underwear gets a real workout. I pack one set along with two pairs of tailored, no-iron black slacks, some white tees - this time of year long sleeves - a black cashmere cardigan, a pair of black sneakers, a pair of cotton ragg socks that I can wear with my sneaks or to bed on a cold night, and underwear and black cotton socks, of course.
I wear/carry a raincoat with its zip-out lining and hat, and my bright red alpaca shawl., a pair of black slacks, a white tee, and a second pair of black walking shoes. If it%26#39;s really cold when I leave, I would also wear a fleece vest because it would give me extra warmth but not be too bulky to fit in the bag.
My guess is that I would use everything or nothing where the warm things are concerned, and there is no way to predict which way it will go.

1BCtraveler, I hope it is not cold enough for long underwear in October !! Good heavens, I may be in trouble with what I am packing. I am leaving my heavy wool coat at home and being optimistic with my trench type.

WTGO: You can substitute panty hose for long underwear. The new silk type are very light weight. REI has them on line.
I usually get very overheated going in and out of the Metro, Museums, department stores that is why I layer.
In October I have never needed the inner liner of my raincoat so I leave that at home. I like the Isitoner water proof head and neck scarf because my umbrella is useless in the wind! and my neck grets cold in the wind and rain and cool mornings! Believe it I used them in the end of May and the beginning of June this year!

Last year October was almost summer like, However, when we were there a few years ago it rained everyday and the wind was bad. Rain coat, umbrella, and comfortable shoes are a must. I pick a color, like black, and bring scarves for color. By doing that I don%26#39;t have to lug so many pairs of shoes. So 2 or 3 slacks and some tops that will go with all should be all you need. I tend to buy clothes while I%26#39;m there, if I find I need anything else. You see irrestistabe things in every shop window you pass. And Heaven help you if enter a department store. French women of all ages wear scarves with everything. I love it.
