beach holiday

Help! Thinking of France for 2007. Never been before. Can anyone recommend beach destination for large family including children and couples.

St -Jean-de-Luz, on the Atlantic coast near the spanish border. Cute town, great beach, no car needed--it is very compact. Five hours by train from Paris. Or by air to Biarritz.
