Oct. 24-26 What's happening???

Just curious. Daughter and I are flying out of Paris on Oct. 25th (daughter), Oct. 26th (me). We are taking the train from Avignon to CDG.

I called over 20 airport hotels around CDG with no chance of a room on 24, 25 Oct. Anyone who lives here knows there are literally dozens and dozens of hotels around CDG. I emailed around 15, I web searched all hotels at CDG with about 10 different hotel websites. NOTHING under 350 euros per night. I really couldn%26#39;t believe it. So, then I started going in towards Paris. Even there, I had a really hard time finding the 3 I found. Granted after I contacted several major chains - Accor Hotels(had one hotel with rooms at 300 euros), Best Western (had two hotels with rooms at 250 and 290) and I can%26#39;t remember which other chains I called with the same results, I gave up. Husband was ready to fork out 340 euros for the Sheraton CDG. We are NOT on vacation. I have to get my daughter off on a flight to the U.S. (she is a young child and is accompanied by air staff) and my flight leaves earlier than hers, so I have to stay the night to catch mine the next day. Hers leaves at noon and the first TGV to CDG is at 6:39 and gets there at 10:04 am and that is too close for comfort for a U.S. flight. Hence the hotel nights and preferably at a reasonable rate (under 200). What in the world is happening in Paris at this time????? Must be a million and one conventions. I have done this for years and have never encountered this much trouble finding a room.

What gives?

Oh and ended up finding rooms at Hotel Relais Bleu around 15 minutes from the airport going North I believe. They said they had a couple of rooms left. I grabbed one at 75 euros a night (3 starts).

Now I am really curious, too!!! I have no idea, but if you really do want to know, ask the hotels. They will certainly have the answer.

Phread - I did ask the one I ended up booking. They just said there were a few big things going on at the nearby Parc des Expositions. Not much of an answer. I asked several of the major hotel chains, but, even though they are located in Paris, they could not tell me why this period was so booked up...

I also had trouble finding flights out of Paris for Oct. 26th. I found my daughter%26#39;s flight with only moderate trouble - no Air France seats on the 25th to the U.S.A. I really found that hard to believe, but asked the agent to check ALL major airports in the U.S. and all were full on that day ... I really thought she was nuts.

Then, when I tried to book my flight to the Mid East on the 26th, I was even more mystified. If I was able to leave 3 days earlier or 3 days later, I could have flown Air France (non-stop), however I am not flexible....

Very very odd.

Well, it is the beginning of the toussaint holiday here in Paris, but I didn%26#39;t think that many went to the states for their vacation. Interestingly, I leave next Wed. for the US and I changed my departure date last week without any problems, and I am using my points, which usually means less options.

Yes, travel before the third week of October was easily obtained and at reasonable rates. Yes, it is Toussaint and that is why my daughter is going to the U.S. - for the school break - me to Mid East to visit hubby.

Just never had so much trouble making travel bookings. The U.S. trip was easier than the Mid East trip !!

Decided to book NOW for the April trip. Don%26#39;t want to go through this again...
