Weather forecasts some rain for our early October visit. What interests/activities are still enjoyable/do-able despite the rain?
|||
I don%26#39;t know where you are staying, French Riviera/Cote d%26#39;Azur covers quite a bit of geography.
We spent 10 days in Antibes and took side trips (by bus) to Monaco and Grasse (perfumery). The scenery alone was worth the trips.
We were there the same time as you are going - never had rain, but was never warm enough for swimsuits either. I found the long range forcasts to be totally useless I%26#39;m afraid - so don%26#39;t bank on the rain.

I should have specified that we are staying in Antibes for 2 weeks--with our 4 year old. We had planned a lot of outdoor sightseeing, but the 10 day forecast shows rain for our first few days. Wondering what things are appropriate to do/see on rainy days.

Antibes in the rain is a bit of a dud - get yourself along to Nice on the train, or Monaco - both have lots to see and do if the weathers not perfect
|||
Thank you--that%26#39;s consistent with what I was thinking....ride train maybe to Nice....or the pine cone train I%26#39;ve heard of (would that still be a scenic ride on a rainy cloudy day?)...
|||
That would be miserable in the rain, and cloud hangs over the Var valley obscuring the views, no, definitely one for a bright sunny day

Thank you. Advice on transport between Nice Aeroporte and Antibes? Husband not intrepid enough for train or bus with 4 year old and luggage in tow. Taxi Franck or ATS? Other recommendation? Approximate fare so I know if quote is fair?
|||
Airport - Antibes - cheapskate solution is the 200 TAM bus from Terminal One - 1.30 euros to Antibes centre, but they don%26#39;t run very late, and its a slow 45 minutes
Taxi - 50 - 60 Euros according to night or day tariff:
…aeroport.fr/acces_stationnement/…default.asp
The fares are %26quot;regulated%26quot; so though its quite a big ticket its generally pretty dependable. The A-T-S transfer service is usually around the same.

Taxi Franck has quoted 160 Euros for roundtrip to/from.I%26#39;ve recevied a quote from ATS of 59 Euros to Antibes, and on the return 69 Euros--130 total. Am I being gouged? What do you recommend?

Nice has several worthwhile museums — Chagall, Matisse, Art Moderne and Beaux Arts. Monte Carlo has the Oceanographic Museum with a splendid aquarium. And there are other museums around if the weather is reaally frightful.
I agree that the Train des Pignes would not be a very worthwhile trip on a rainy day since you wouldn%26#39;t get to see much of the scenery.
If it%26#39;s not raining too hard just wandering round old Nice would be a pleasant way to spend an afternoon, stopping here and there to refresh yourselves with something warming and cheering in a café from time to time of course.
in any case it probably won%26#39;t be as rainy as you think. We just spent seven days in the south of France (Var and Gers) with pretty dodgy looking forecasts before we left. We had one showery day, one day with a couple of major thunderstorms, and the rest were mostly warm and sunny...
Can%26#39;t help you with he taxi fare question, but I%26#39;m sure the resident authority will be back momentarily!
Have a great traip!

Resident authority here - pass the mike over. Look at that, you turn your back five minutes and theyre piling in with more helpful advice!
I d go for ATS - its nicer to have someone waiting with your name on a card to greet you.
You might like to consider the gambler approach - which I did myself last week . See a few people waiting in line for bus or cab and ask if anyone going your way wants pool the cab and split the fare.
Four of us shared a cab to Nice centre and cut the 30 euro cabfare down to 7.50 each.- a fraction more than the 4 euro flat fare to Nice, and saved an hours wait.
If you can negotiate, you can halve the taxi fare, if you have no takers, you bear the full fare and youre no worse off.
