Any recommendations?

Im planning a trip to the Loire next July, hopefully to catch some of the tour de france and do a bit of cycling and relaxing with my wife.

I was wondering if anyone has visited the Loire that could recommend a cottage, gite or B%26amp;B on the outskirts of a town (but not too far) 10-15 mins walk ideally with surrounding countryside.

Ive not been to France before so don%26#39;t know the Loire at all but I do like the look of Saumur, Chinon and Amboise and if anyone can suggest any other towns that would be a bonus.

try www.loiregiteholiday.co.uk

Very relaxing, tranquil, and near a lovely chateau village.

Great hosts who can provide meals by request.

If you%26#39;re interested in staying in a gite or bed and breakfast, you probably already know Gites de France http://www.gites-de-france.fr/eng/index.htm The accommodation is registered with individual French departments, mainly within the %26#39;Centre Val de Loire%26#39; area, although there are also nice areas further downstream within %26#39;Pays de la Loire%26#39;. There is detail for each gite about distance from shops and other facilities. If you need to check locations on a map, a good site is http://www.viamichelin.co.uk/

Loire Valley is fantastic for 3-4 days. We stayed in this lovely hotel and loved it: Hotel Diderot, in Chinon.

Definitely rent a car to see the surrounding countryside. We discovered so many little towns, some that didn%26#39;t have signs to them as we drove along. The drive from Chinon to Amboise to Tours to many chateaus are lined with many little charming towns. Each are about 20 minutes apart by car. The roads are easy and signs are very clear as well.

There will not be a shortage of towns for you to choose from.

Amboise is a little too touristy, tours is too much a college town, Chinon is just perfect!

Try www.loire-gites.com. A 15-20 minute drive from Saumur. 30 min drive to Angers. Bi-lingual English owners. Quiet countryside setting.
