My daughter and I will be staying in Nice for a couple of nights at the very beginning of March 2007 and I%26#39;m toying with booking one of the above hotels. Would anyone recommend one over the other?

Location wise - Gounod is by far the better choice. Excelsior - Av Durante - is a tad too close to the main railway station for comfort - sleazy - and further away from all the main attractions.
Perhaps someone here has stayed - I can%26#39;t comment from experience - but a quick look at the map will confirm the advantage is with Gounod

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Gounod two years ago and I just booked the hotel again for my trip in November. The location is perfect- about a 5 minute walk from the train station and also a 5 minute walk from the ocean.
Although it is not a luxury hotel, and the furnishings may be a little dated, it is very clean and very convenient to everything. You can%26#39;t beat the price as well.
I booked on venere.com and got a great rate. You can use my discount code and receive a 4 % discount. Its AHPXU9B.
Don%26#39;t know anything about the Excelsior- but I would highly recommend the Hotel Gounod.
Have a great trip
