Nice Itinerary

We will be arriving in Nice in January via train from Venice at approx 9.30am. We are staying one night at the Hotel Suisse before flying to London at 12 noon the next day.

I want to arrange a half-day med-tour to Monaco, Monte Carlo and Eze which departs at 1.30pm. I had thought about trying do this ourselves to save money however its only a 4 hour tour and i think if we try and do it ourselves it will end up taking much longer cos we will get ourselves lost!!

As we are staying at the Hotel Suisse and will obviously need to drop our bags off when we arrive and be back in time to be picked up for the tour where should we visit in the time we have? We will be back by 5.30pm and can have dinner in Nice, does anyone have any recommendations on where to eat or go have a drink?

Also how much time should we allow to get to the airport and fly to London the next day? I wouldn%26#39;t mind being able to have a bit more of a look around in Nice before we go if possible!!

Thanks in advance for your advice!!

Normally I would avoid tours altogther but with you are time-strapped for such a short stay, I think just pay for the convenience.

You don%26#39;t say you are a foodie with an XXL wallet - so a sensible choice in January which can be cold out is probably in the popular Zone Pieton - Taverne Massena is excellent, as is Milo%26#39;s, both of which are nice inside as well as ok outside if its warm enough. Great piza and the rest, easy access and convenient.

There are lots of eats within Vieux Nice, which is nearer to the Suisse, though I am afraid I take the view many are more %26quot;tourist traps%26quot; than good restaurants. %26quot;All-about-Nice%26quot; on Virtualtourist.com has many excellent restaurant recommendations for Nice - change chanels and have a look.

You have a few hours in the morning before you need to head for the airport. Its twenty minutes to the airport by the express coach 98 which runs along the front - from the Suisse a stroll down the front to the Meridien/ Mercure Promenade des Anglais which will be your nearest bus stop.

You will have two to three hours spare - have breakfast at Le Pain Quotidien at the edge of the flower market, explore the Colline du Chateau, or you just have time to do the Grand Tour bus. You need to head for the airport around 11.30/12.00. The weather will really set the options.

Cheers

we were in cote d%26#39;azure this past june. we saw Monaco, Monte Carlo and Eze all in one afternoon on our own. we were originally going to book the Med-Tour but our concierge was appauled by the prices they were charging. You can take the buses that run along the promenade by the sea and take a bus from Gare Routiere directly to Eze, then pick up a timetable or ask the ticket desk what bus to take to Monaco, its less than 30 minutes away. You can then see Monte Carlo and take a bus, train or taxi back--just find out when the last bus/train departs Monte Carlo.

Eze is tiny. You can see the entire place in little over an hour. 2 hours if you have a leisurely coffee up top or see the gorgeous garden.

The remaining day and night is ideal for Monaco with its glitzy lights.

We left our hotel about 2.5-3 hours before our flight to London. It was plenty of time and the airport was small enough that you won%26#39;t get lost.

Again, we took a public bus directly to airport, which runs along the promenade as well. Your hotel can tell you where the bus stop/stand is.

Have fun and do go to Eze.

Hello Sydney,

You need to be at the airport 2 hours before Departure. So allow 1/2 hour extra for getting there from the centre of Nice %26amp; make sure you get off the bus at the correct Terminal - T1 %26amp; T2.

If you find you have extra baggage (after some shopping) take as much as you can on the plane as hand luggage, as you could find yourself charged extra for being overweight - I was lol.

I hope you get Paschal on that Med Tour trip. A Fountain of Knowledge. Hope you have read my messages on this subject.

Ask him to point out Elton John%26#39;s, Bono%26#39;s, Sean Connery%26#39;s etc Pads.

And sadly where Princess Grace crashed in 1982, feels like last year to me. The views along the coast are XXX.

Next time spend more than one day ! Grrrr.

Bon Voyage

John

Thanks everyone, i have just booked the tour in! We would love to wonder through and do this ourselves but its just too hard in a limited time frame.

How long will it take us to get from the train station to the Suisse?

Would any of you be able to suggest a suitable itinerary for the time we have between leaving our bags at the hotel and the pickup for the tour at 1.30? Preferably to finish our walk back near the hotel...

We dont want to walk too far away but would like to take in the promenade etc and whatever else we can view in the time we have. We wont be worried about museums etc as after a week in Italy before this i think we will have covered this off!! :)

Thanks again!

Greetings Teeka09,

Just stroll on the Cours Seleya, which depending on which day you%26#39;ll be there, will either have a fun fruit, vegetable, and flower market till early afternoon, or on Monday, there is great antique show in the same area. Any more time after that, just wander through the old town till you have to get to your tour. It will be pretty cool, so I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll be wanting to sit at an outdoor cafe, unless you%26#39;re in the mood for a hot chocolate. Whatever, enjoy!

To CDAWORLD:

I was looking at a tour that goes to Eze-Monaco from Nice. It%26#39;s about an 8-hr. tour and picks you up from your hotel. The price is 79 Euros.

Would you recommend this tour or would you recommend doing it on our own?

To TEEKA:

You can also stroll along the beach, and then go to the %26quot;Ascenseur%26quot; to relax. Visit the old carousel, too along the way!

Distance from the train station to Hotel Suisse no more than 20 minutes. By the time you drop your bags you will have 3 hrs. til your tour. As suggested take a walk to Cour Seleya which is about a 5 minute walk from Hotel Suisse. Then you can walk along the Promenade Anglais. That could take about 2 hrs or less. You will then have a short time to stroll thru. Vieux Nice which is a short distance from Hotel Suisse and Cour Seleya. Go to the web site for Nice and order a free map which will help to plan your tour. I think it is www.nicetourism.com.

|||

i should edit before I print. Both Cours Seleya and a walk down the Promenade can take 2 hrs or less. You can take longer however with you limited time you want to have a little time in Vieux Nice

i love carey grant,

i would ask the tour company what the tour includes, take a closer look at the itinerary, i don%26#39;t imagine you%26#39;ll need 8 hours to see Eze and Monaco. Take a look at a guide book as well: Rick Steve%26#39;s France or Frommer%26#39;s was helpful when we went. I recommend doing it on your own, whenever possible. The journey to your destination is part of the fun!
