Classic Metropolitain string ensemble

I am back from Paris and will get my report in soon. First things first! While in Paris we were at Place Des Vosges on Saturday 13th of May we heard a group of young people playing beautiful music. We bought one of their CD%26#39;s and now wish we had bought all they had. The CD is called Classic Metropolitain. There were about 8 violins, 2 violas, 2 cellos and 1 bass. If anyone knows of this group and knows how to find any more of their CD%26#39;s I would really appreciate knowing that information.

I never knew such beautiful sound could be heard at an outdoor gathering! Thanks in advance for any help!

Aren%26#39;t they fabulous?! My husband and I happened upon them on a Sunday in Place des Vosges during the Christmas/New Year%26#39;s holiday a year ago. We also were spellbound by their beautiful music. We bought one of their cd%26#39;s and as soon as we left Paris regretted that we hadn%26#39;t bought more. My husband tried very hard to research them to see if we could purchase their other cd%26#39;s from home in the US, but wasn%26#39;t able to figure out a way to do so. We returned to Paris in December 2005 and promptly went back and bought their other 2...so now we listen to them all the time and dream of being back. I%26#39;ll ask him when he comes home from work tonight if he has any ideas and if so, I%26#39;ll post them here. Enjoy the one you have!!

If you send me your address, I could slip it into their hat and ask them to get in contact regarding further purchases. I am often there on Sundays.

Dear Phread,

Thanks for your prompt answer! I was prepared to sit back and wait for some time. So, I am thrilled to hear back so fast.

My e-mail is: frazercf1962@aol.com

Thanks cmflvn. Unless they have come out with one since December 2005, I believe we own all of them. phread, if you%26#39;re dropping by and notice a 4th cd put out by this group, could you please let me know? We can purchase it when we go back to Paris this fall. Thanks!

What time of day are they are Places des Vosges?

|||

We have found them there in the afternoon on Sundays. We typically have eaten lunch on Ile St Louis then walked over to the Marais. We%26#39;ve done some shopping before hitting Place des Vosges so I think it must be mid afternoon when we%26#39;ve been there. They are SO good and if I%26#39;m not mistaken, they are all music students in Paris who get together to play for free and try to earn a little money by selling their cds. By the way, there is absolutely no pressure to buy anything at all. We just enjoyed them so much that we wanted to be able to listen to them once back in the US. It%26#39;s also quite pleasant...assuming that the weather is nice...to sit on one of the park benches in the PdV and just %26quot;be%26quot; in Paris surrounded by such beauty. Paris truly is a feast for the senses!

what%26#39;s the name of the group? if you like strings you might also enjoy Les Archets if that%26#39;s not who you%26#39;re talking about.

|||

Just Grace,

The only name that I see is on the front of the CD and all it says is Classic Metropolitain. Does the Les Archets have about the same musical configuration? All of the players were so young I thought they might be students but were so talented i wasn%26#39;t sure of what to think!

We were just walking toward Place des Vosges and could hear the music coming from inside. It must have been about 2PM on a Saturday afternoon. I went back to my notes from our trip and found out which day for sure. I know we stayed until they stopped playing and packed up their instruments. But there was absolutely no pressure to buy anything--just the opportunity presented to us by a very sweet young girl.

Thanks everyone for all the info--glad to hear that others think they are talented also!

cmflvn - Les Archets is a strings group but I believe they are members of the National Opera Orchestra and the Paris National Orchestra (as near as I can make out with my pitiful french from their website.) I missed the part about your group possibly being students. But I%26#39;ll trade, here is the Les Archets website and when you get more info (thanks phread!) you can post it. :)
