Versailles is an easy RER train ride from Paris. About 45 minutes, maybe. As for the worth of the trip, that depends on the visitor. Large palace, incredible grounds, tons of tourists and one of the most splendid royal sights in Eurore. Some people don%26#39;t enjoy it so much. Others go there and decide to immigrate (yours truly).

How long will you be in Paris? I%26#39;d say it%26#39;s worth a visit if you%26#39;ll be in the city for more than say, 3 days. Personally, I think it%26#39;s pretty impressive.

Loved Versailles, as did my husband and daughter, surprise. Great half or one day trip!
We took RER C from the Invalides (6 E roundtrip), about 30 min ride. That is the line to take, because it%26#39;s station is the closest to the Chateau. Versailles is the last stop, and then just a few blocks to walk.
Toured the State Apartments in the morning, had early lunch, rented a golf cart and toured the gardens and Marie Antonette%26#39;s hamlet area. Toured the Private Apartments in the afternoon, and then back to the gardens for the fountains. Back to Paris by 5pm, we had plenty of time to go to Notre Dame at 6PM Mass.
If you just want a half day in the State Apartments and garden, a Paris Museum Pass will give you entree at Door B, without standing in the ticket line. Audioquides and aditional tours extra.
If you want a full day, the combination ticket at the RER station is just 21-22 Euros and includes roundtrip train and the one day Passport ticket to Versailles. The passport gives you every tour (including the MesdamesApartments exclusively), free audioquides, garden, MA%26#39;s domain, and I think the garden tram too.

me again...The RER C line is the best Versailles train. I did not mean to suggest that you should leave from Invalides (d%26quot;Orsay). Any RER C station takes you closest to Versailles, last stop so you can%26#39;t get lost. The line is Versailles R.G. or %26quot;Rive Gauch%26quot;-not CH. and the train will be a %26quot;V %26quot; train.
On the way home, all the trains from that station will be a C line and return you to Paris. Couldn%26#39;t be easier to do on your own.
