How far from CDG Airport to Ile de la Cite?

We%26#39;ve just found out we have to pick our hire car up from CDG Airport on the morning we leave Paris and have to be there early. Can anyone please tell me approx how long it would take to get there and if it would be worth taking a taxi or 2 (2 adults 3 children 2 bags and a fold up wheelchair). Thanks for your help, we leave in 2 days and I am now frantic with nerves hence the dumb questions I might post between now and then!

CDG is exactly 23 km from Île de la Cité.

Look at the brass plate just right at Notre-Dame, that%26#39;s %26quot;point zero%26quot; for distances to/from Paris, it explains why you see %26quot;Paris 100 km%26quot; on the blue signage panels, when the little signpostings say %26quot;93.5%26quot; : the former is referring to Notre-Dame, the latter to the %26quot;butt%26quot; of the motorway.

Nevertheless, there is a direct RER (commuter rail) connection between the two. Given the size of your party, I advise that you book a minivan taxi - which won%26#39;t cost very much more than a regular taxi [the price of the feeder ride plus the 5th passenger]. It will match price with the added commuter rail tickets. And so much more convenient !

You should book your taxi in the evening. You might want to call

Taxi G7 : 01 47 39 01 39 (special number for van vehicles, but they will charge 7.6€ extra on the phone for the service !),

Alpha Taxis : 01 45 85 85 85. Be sure to ask for %26quot;un monospace%26quot;.

You pose some curious questions.

1. You can tell the rental company when you want to pickup the car. There is no need to %26quot;be there early%26quot;. At least not any earlier than is convenient for you.

2. It would be much easier to take a taxi to the Ile de la Cite (basically the center of Paris). Travel time 30 - 45 minutes, cost perhaps 40-50 euros. Some rental companies charge 20 – 25 euros if you pick up a rental car at an airport. You may want to inquire about this.

3. If you did pickup a car at CDG and drove to Paris Center, what would you do with the car once you got there? I infer that you are renting a car for your stay in Paris. Hopefully I have misunderstood because a car in Paris is an enormous liability. Parking is very expensive and public transportation is much more efficient.

Perhaps you could clarify exactly your circumstances and we could offer better advice.

Sarastro, to me it seems that the OP wants/needs to pick up his car at CDG in order to return it there later (before a departing flight ?) but stays in the Île de la Cité.

Thanks Super.

In that case, Search, tell the rental company you want to pick the car up at a downtown office (all rental companies have offices very close to, if not in the city center. Going to CDG is not necessary. I have never paid a one way fee in France for not dropping off a car in the same location it was picked up.

You are staying in the Ile de la Cite while in Paris, and when you leave Paris you need a car to continue your travels out of the city, right?

CDG is 30 min from Paris in a taxi WITHOUT traffic, cost 38-40 Euros. Traffic increases travel time and cost, with the meter running. Early morning during rush hour would be more expensive. Is the rental agency even open before the rush hour? Since a regular taxi will not take 5 passengers, you will need a larger taxi. You would be better to make arrangements for a private car, van, or shuttle.

Other option are the express buses:

Air France shuttle has 2 lines serving CDG: 13-14 E adult/6.5 or 7E child under 11, 15 % discount for groups of 4 or more.

Line 2-starting at 5:50AM from Arc de Triomphe %26amp; Porte Maillot

Line 4-starting at 7AM from Montparnasse %26amp; Gare de Lyon.

Roissybus-express bus direct from Place de L%26#39;Opera to CDG: 8.5 E every 15 min starting at 5:45.

But with a group of 5, the cost might egual to or be greater than a private shuttle.

I think a Taxi will take three small children and two adults.

It can take anywhere from 30-60 minutes depending on the day and the traffic.

You did not say how early you had to be there?

It is too bad you did not order the car rental to be picked up in Paris. We picked ours up at the closest train station and then we picked it up in Place d%26#39; Italie.

I would take a taxi and it will cost more if the hotel calls for it the night before as they have a prior drop meter fee that is run up by the time they pick you up.

Thanks for all your answers guys. Sorry I wasn%26#39;t clearer but I did warn I was stressed! We have a friend who lives in France who has arranged our car for us and the reason we have to pick it up from CDG early is because we are actually meeting him there so he can help with all the arrangements and he is very familiar with the rental car people. We then leave Paris and drive to Italy. My husband is now suggesting that he goes and picks the car up then drives back to get us but I am a bit worried about him finding his way through the traffic in Paris. He is a very confident driver and I am the one doing all the worrying. Is is fairly straightforward driving into Paris?

One comment are you also going to drive the rental? If so you may need to be there to show your driver%26#39;s license and to sign as the extra driver. I would make sure you do not.

We did not think it was difficult to drive in Paris but we have been there many times. It is much easier if one has a map reader along.

But then too you can use Mappy or any other mapping on the computer to plot the drive back to the Ile St. Louis location. So he can have a map directly to follow.

This last trip there were many detours as there is a lot of road construction going on.

It is good you have a friend to help you with the car rental!

We are having two problems with car ental from last summer.

1) Make sure if they upgrade you because they have no other automatic car availible that you are not charged and they make a note that you did not request it. ( We waited 3 1/2 hours for a car and now they are trying to charge us for the upgrade when they told us that it was the only car and it was the same price as the one we ordered no extra charge..).

2) Make sure you keep the fuel receipt for filling the gas tank before you turn it back in and also make sure you get them to sign that you returned it with a full tank.

They are trying to charge us even though I have the receipt and the two guys refused to sign out paper that the tank was full. We have a dispute right now on it.

Discover I can%26#39;t drive so poor old hubby will be the sole driver! Thanks for the tips re: the car hire and sorry to hear about your woes with your car hire. I%26#39;m hoping because this friend deals with them on a very regular basis and is French, they will be kind to us!

I am sure having a friend in France who rents from the company and how reads French and speaks French will be so helpful!

Have a great trip!
