Can anyone give me advice. Never been there. Looking for reasonably priced hotel. Don%26#39;t know where!! Left bank or right bank area. Of course want to sightsee! Any companies that put together packages for air and hotel? Am really a novice.
Thanks.

There have been hundreds of postings on these subjects. If you use the search box, you%26#39;ll find more information than you could possibly hope for.

Hi, my husband and I will be there the same week. Definately the left bank! This is our second trip and we love the Latin Quarter. Cafe%26#39;s, shops, people watching and so much to do. Lots of hotels but be careful, Paris hotels are not like the US. We have two reserved and are trying to make up our minds on which one to pick. Better to plan the trip yourself, I think its less expensive in the long run.

Thanks for the info. Since I don%26#39;t know anything, could you please tell me how the hotels are different. Are 3 star hotels ok, or do we need to upgrade?
|||
fuzzyfl, the star system can easily mislead you. So best to be informed. For example, I have stayed in two wonderful small hotels in the latin quarter that have only TWO stars ! The hotel St. jacques and hotel College de France. Check them out and you will see they rank very high here on TA. The star system is basically judged on amenities such as air conditioning, restaurants and services. A Marriott for example may rank a 4 star. However, rarely will a small inn that does not have air conditioning even rank three stars even though it is very charming. I find I love the small charming hotels the best in Paris in order to get the full effect of the city, but it is a personal preference. Usually if they have air conditioning they rank three stars, and without they rank two. But in October, you probably won%26#39;t need air conditioning and you can open a window.
Regardless of what you may hear, rarely do rooms in Paris not have a private bathroom even at two stars. The two I mentioned above had a cute room for breakfast, a small lift, 24 hour desk service and very decent rooms.

oh, but I must add a cute story about our %26quot;24 hour desk service%26quot; at College de France. When arriving back at about 4am one morning after dancing, the front door was cracked and our keys were laying on the front desk as we were the last ones in for the night. I did not see anyone and then about that moment I heard snoring coming from behind the desk !! lol, The night attendants do snooze on the job sometimes !

Let%26#39;s start with airfare, check:
www.kayak.com
www.mobissimo.com
These site and others like them offer air travel a the best prices.
Next hotels:
I suggest you search those found in the 4th, 5th, and 6th arrondissments which are animated yet somewhat touristy locals very close to the monuments and locations pertinent to tourisme.
To find the hotel that best suits you price point and need, consult the Paris Hotels section of this website as well as:
http://en.venere.com/
http://www.parisby.com/
bed-and-breakfast-in-paris.com/Dicillin.php
www.hotelsparis.fr/portal.php?x=HOME%26l=EN
www.tellthetruthtravel.com/ParisHotels.htm
Some specific hotels often recommended by writters here in no particular order:
http://www.hotel-paris-familia.com/
http://paris-hotel-grandbalcons.com/
http://www.hoteldenesle.net/
http://www.hotel-de-saint-germain.com/
http://www.hotel-grandes-ecoles.com/
http://paris-hotel-louisdeux.com/
http://www.hotelamelie.fr/#go
For sight seeing, buy a guide book and read it as much as possible in advance of your trip. The DK Eyewitness series is chosen by many. A forum search here about %26quot;Pairs guidebooks%26quot; wil give you even more ideas.
Hope this helps.

Hey Fuzzyfl,
I think it depends on what is important to you. Honestly if you put Paris in to tripadvisor.com and than do a search in zone 5 or 6 it will give you a wealth of information. You will see the hotels, be able to read all of the comments from people who have stayed there and see candid shots taken by the guests themselves. Much better than the ones the hotels provide because they are honest. For me the hotel must be clean and charm is as important. I would not want to stay in a flea bag hotel in Chicago and I would not want to do that in Paris either. I love trip advisor. I often go to Venere.com and than cut and paste the hotel into search on trip advisor and cross reference. We love Paris and want to be comfortable in our choice. I love the livliness of the Latin Quarter but will visit some of the quieter area%26#39;s as well. If you book through Venere and book your credit card will not be charged until check out. You can reserve and cancel within the allowd time if you find something better. You have to hurry though because we started two weeks ago and some of the best places were already full. I personally would not stay in a two star hotel but that%26#39;s up to you. Hey, maybe we will see you there. Are you coming with family?

Hi Chi,
I wouldn%26#39;t stay in a flea bag either. I can%26#39;t believe how quickly I%26#39;ve gotten responses.
I have checked venere.com for some info and will continue to do so.
I appreciate the info on where to stay and will stick to the Latin Quarter area.
It%26#39;s not a definite yet. Need to check with some friends. If we do go, we will probably be 2 couples.
If you%26#39;re there at the same time, it would be fun to meet.
Later,
Fuzzy
