Hi all,
I am leaving in 1 week to vacation for a month in U.K. and Europe.
I have been told that travellers cheques are not worldly accepted. That it can be down right impossible to cash or use them in places like London and Paris.
Does anyone know if this is true???? I am not comfortable carrying around 1 months worth of cash, nor running to an ATM machine all the time. Can anyone help me out????? Greatly appericated :)

I think there have been a few posts about this recently. You might find more by using the search box. In general I would say that using travellers cheques is more hassle than having to go to an ATM machine. There are certainly plenty of them around in London and Paris.

TC%26#39;s, telegraph, steamboat over the Atlantic... all these nostalgic relics of the past. I wonder what is the problem of using an ATM once in 2-3 days when you happen to walk past one? It is what almost everybody does around here. Most, esp. expensive things will be paid fo by a credit or debit card, and the cash for small purchases comes from an ATM.

You sound lke you don%26#39;t believe what you%26#39;ve been told - so - I suggest you take some TCs with you and find out for yourself - there%26#39;s no bloody point in asking the forum for advice if you think we%26#39;re all liars!!!!!!!! Yes, it%26#39;s true!!!!! Why would we bother to post the information if it weren%26#39;t true????????????

Thanks to all for your responses.
My apologies to 1BCTraveler. I by no means believe that those that use this forum are liars. I perhaps did not correctly word my question. I was rather confused as I have been told several different/ conflicting answers from travel agents on this subject (i.e. on the use of travellers cheques and getting money out from certain accounts from ATMs). This is why I did post it on this forum, for I believe that the people that read and respond have experience things first hand. I was just concerned of having troubles receiving monies when abroad and wanted to make sure I took the proper steps to make my trip fun and safe. Once again I meant no offensive to anyone.

Hello fellow Canadian.
Don%26#39;t worry, take your ATM card and use it. I always have a credit card to pay the hotel.
I stayed three weeks last August in London and Paris and never took a single travellers check. They ARE a hassle.
As a Canadian I am sure your pin is a four digit number( Americans sometimes use letters) and make sure you put all your money into your CHEQUING account as that is all the French banks will draw from.
You do not need to run to an ATM all the time, every three days is enough, put the excess money in your money belt and wear it, put 20 euros or so in your purse or walllet to pay for little things without having to go into your money belt in public. As you spend , go to washroom and take a little bit more out.
There are ATMs everywhere in London and Paris, you will walk by them many times.
Have fun and don%26#39;t worry, you will be surprised how easy it will be!

Thank You Joan 1.
The last time I was in Europe was 15 years ago ..... and boy o boy have things changed.
It is good to know that the ATMs are in abundance and that no one has ran into any problems. I have already purchased some UK pounds and Euro%26#39;s for spending money on arrival. I have stayed away from the thought of travellers cheques .... learn something new every day. I sure wish that the travel agents and bank agents in my home city were more informed about these things. I appericate the info. Thanks muchly :)
