Which place is more scenic in Oct and how do I get there for a one day trip without a car?
Thanks in advance...

Both huge areas - depends where you are travelling from... I would say the Loire - Chateau such as Amboise and the garden expo (is it still on?) Chanencoux (excuse spelling) all along the Loire. I am afraid one day is not enough for either ,so the Loire as above will give you a taster

They%26#39;re both very beautiful and unique destinations. It depends on which one you favor more.
I guess you may be based in Paris. There are trains to take you both to Tours and to Amboise where you can pick up a half day tour to visit a few of the very famous chateaux around the area. Acco Dispo Tours is a very inexpensive, highly recommended tour company. www.accodispo-tours.com
For Normandy where is it exactly are you interested in visiting? Mont St. Michel? It is a bit more complicated to take the train to get there, however, it is possible.

I have visited both Normandy and the Loire Valley
in my 5 trips to France in the past 6 years.
Which one to go to depends on what you
are looking for,
The Loire Valley has many beautiful
chateauxs and opportunities for
wine tasting, shopping and
a good meal. Good for sightseening
and photography also.
Normandy provides a pastoral
countryside until you get to
the coast. There you find the
WWII landing beaches and
cemetery. Be prepared to
learn and feel alot.
Mont. St Michel is in a class
by itself. Do read up on
it before you go.
For a one day trip you might
consider a tour like ParisVision;
they know the areas and you
leave the drining to them,
You can%26#39;t go wrong either way.
Best Wishes

There are many ways to do these things, but, without a car I would choose a bus tour. Yes you can do trains to Normandy, but then still arrange to get a tour to the D Day beaches and other sites, also, you must feel confident in your ability to get through this all in one day and make the last train back to Paris. Normandy is not that close as you can see from a map. A bus tour from Paris is the easiest , although perhaps not the cheapest way to do a one day Normandy trip.
The Loire Valley is closer, but the sites( the chateaus) are not doable without a car, or there again a van tour.
The fastest easiest way for a novice is a bus tour.
Cityrama or ParisVisions both are reputable, well known , and both other various tours to both places , all in a day trip format( a very long day ).
Look up their web sites, just google or yahoo them.
I did a one day Cityrama Loire tour last August, cost 147 euros. No waiting in lines and no thinking required. If I had more time, it would be nice to have done Normandy, but there is no way I personally would do it as a bus tour in one day, too much driving.

A one day %26quot;non-car rental do it yourself train/bus trip%26quot; to those two huge areas would be impossible to make it worthwhile.
Depending on the weather both can be scenic in October.
I would suggest you do a Professional Bus Tour for a one day trip to either of those two place. I have done both and they are not that expensive and the tour is easy because it is all planned for you. All you have to do is enjoy it.
Or you could do a one day %26quot;do it yourself trip train trip%26quot; to Charters or Fountainblu and Vieux Le Vicomte or Reims or Giverney. (Just suggestions I do not know what you have seen already.)
