Paris Street Index

Hello

can anyone give me the name of a good street index for Paris? I am looking for something similar to London%26#39;s A-Z. The A-Z lists and maps all streets and Underground stations I%26#39;m hoping there is a Parisian equivalent.

Thank you in advance.

Hi

There is a small pocketsize street-map (book) with literally ALL streets, metroplan, buslines, map of suburbs, airports, lists of churches, museums etc etc. which - once bought and tried in Paris - will be your best and trusty friend.

Plan de Paris par arrondissement

L%26#39;Indispensable

Can be bought at www.fnac.fr - it is the black copy as it has a more solid leather-like cover. Type %26quot;Plan de Paris par arrondissment%26quot; in the %26quot;rechercher%26quot;- field.

You will not regret it - I have NEVER looked for anything in Paris in my l%26#39;Indispensable and not found it.

Thanks for your help GitteK. I looked on FNAC and saw the book. If only my French wasn%26#39;t so horrible I%26#39;d buy it direct from them b/c their price isn%26#39;t bad €7.95. Is Paris par Arrondissement available in tabacs in Paris?

I just bought one of these on my last trip and they are invaluable, but they run approx 15.00 euros in the small tabacs or card shops but only approx 7.50 euros in a bigger book store. Shop around!

Hi Kittian:

You can also buy it at www.amazon.com - that should be easier if you do not read French:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/104-3095694-6955103?url=search-alias%3Daps%26amp;field-keywords=plan+de+paris+par+arrondissement

Make sure that you order the black copy with the 29 plans de banlieue (suburbs).

I believe you can buy it at the Virgin Megastore on Champs Elysées. BTW: they also have a very nice section with books and paperbacks in English, if you run out of reading stuff during your vacation.

These books are also available at all the magazine stands in the city. I like getting them live, as opposed to onliine, because we all have different preferences for size/layout.

Hi. We are staying in a apartment in the 12th near Saint-Mande metro. Can you tell me if this map book will cover the area out as far as this?? All the maps I%26#39;ve looked at in guide books seem to stop slightly short of it.

Many thanks

KQ - I love my little L%26#39;Indispensable (though I have a different version) that I got at a news kiosk. If you want something now, you could get the Streetwise map and any Borders or Barnes %26amp; Noble. It%26#39;s a one-sheet, laminated folding map with the metro stations, museums and major tourist attractions on it. It doesn%26#39;t have every single little side street and alleyway like L%26#39;Ind. does but it%26#39;s still a great map for a first timer tourist to Paris. Then when you get there, if you need more details you can pick up the L%26#39;Ind. just about anywhere - tabac, newstand, bookstores, FNAC. I think I paid 9€ for mine. The Streetwise is $7.95.

mama - if you%26#39;re talking about the metro station St. Mandé Tourelle you%26#39;re juuuussstttt barely outside Paris proper. Most maps stop at the Periphérique (the huge %26quot;beltway%26quot; that circles Paris) and I can just barely see your stop on the edge of my map page. It%26#39;s not on my Streetwise at all as it doesn%26#39;t cover the outer edges of the entire city.

Yes JustGrace - that%26#39;s exactly my problem!! Still if you can just see the Metro stop it should show where we are staying. I%26#39;ve had a good look at the area on Google maps, but it would be nice to have a mapbook. I%26#39;ll have a look at the L%26#39;Indispensable when I get there.

Many thanks for your reply
